That's a bummer to hear someone say not a Silv-o-lite casting but it is what it is.

I'm in Anaheim. How about you?

The number 5 cap stamping goes on the opposite side. An easy mistake for first time LS builders that don't remember removal or don't have a manual. The other mistake is ordering the wrong head bolts as the newer gen3 (2003+) went to an equal length head bolt... and don't forget to install the barbell lol.

I've attached the LQ9 engine manual if you decide to build it yourself.

Number 5 main cap

Thank you very much for the info, the picture and the manual! Really appreciate the help.

I was just thinking, cylinder head shops might have good leads on engine builders. Check with-

West Coast Cylinder Heads (Van Nuys, Los Angeles County) - (818) 705-5454

BPE Racing Heads (Placentia, Orange County) - (714) 572-6072

Has anyone put these on a scale? Stock replacement flat tops with no balancing required would be nice.

I can tell you my Friend is currently running .030 over's with the Floating pin rods on a stock crank that was originally Stock pistons with the early press pin rods.

Due I personally recommend it, No. But it can and has been done.

I paid through the nose and had mine balanced for piece of mind even though it was originally a floating pin rod motor. But I also had mine decked and torque plate honed too...

I have 1 Motor in front of it to get to first before I assemble it. I am not sure if mine was decked enough to get the piston near the top or out of the deck.

On my friends motor it was .009 Down in the hole With .030 Speed Pro pistons FWIW.

Thanks Brick, I may order a set and see where I end up. Although if they end up down on the hole that much that's not ideal either, were talking half a point.

When they make replacement oversized pistons, They have to account for resurfacing and the change in bore size to maintain the factory compression ratio.

They don't take into account what we are doing.
An aftermarket replacement standard size piston may be the correct compression height. Someone would have to order one though to confirm.

The pistons are private label silvolite. Rings are private label hastings and bearings are private label king. Thats the long and short of it.

I used the 5.3 set, 2010+ with 2 valve reliefs. Was disappointed in them when I only had 15 of the 16 wrist pin clips. Engine tech basically told me to **** off and to call who I bought them from. Then I called the seller (shop) and they said **** off call engine tech. Well FML, I had to use an old GM one to complete my build.

That type of customer service has pushed me away from ever giving engine tech another penny.

Late to the party, but I couldn’t find info on this when I was looking.
The flat top engine tech 6.0 pistons are 20g heavier than the floating LQ4 stockers that were in my 04 engine.
The balance shop just had to weld metal back into some of the drilled areas of the counterweights. No Mallory metal needed.

Piston/pin combo or just piston comparison? Pins can be quite a bit different also.

It was the combo. The new piston was heavier and the new pin was lighter.
