Cam was ordered today so there is no turning back now.
If you recall I am getting the cam swapped on my LS6. Idle was important as was power output (yes, I want it all) Also, it will need to pass a sniff at some point. It will be tuned with LS1 edit to maximize the cam. Here is what I went with.
222/224 .566/.568 113LSA
Going to use the 918 springs which should easily handle the lift, Ti retainers, hardened pushrods as well as an UD pulley to get the extra few remaining HP. Since it's off anyway, might as well replace it.
Thanks to all on this board for some great cam advice. It really helped. I'm going to second guess myself until it's installed though. It reminds me when I was trying to choose a converter in my old car...

FWIW..I think you made a sound call. Should be a balanced performer and still meet emissions requirement.
Just curious how much more the rev 1116 dual spring would have cost and why you choose not to use them.
BTW..I'm sure the cam you chose will not overstress the 918's.

JB, I'm hoping I'll be close to 400rwhp. I didn't choose the dual springs primarily because the lift of the cam isn't too radical. Also wouldn't the dual springs cause more valvetrain noise? I just thought it was bringing a gun to a knife fight but I can always change my mind. Any reason why I should?

I would go with what the tuner in this case Mike NOrris recommends. I see the 918's on lots of cars..and I also see movement towards rev 1116 duals gaining momentum.
Not sure which is better but the duals do give you the added benefit that if a spring would break..there is a second spring to save the motor?
High lift cams use the rev 1116 springs and I believe one of the Corvette enthusiasts from www.crossflags.com John and Donna is using them on his relatively low lift heads and cam package from AA andy and he is one gentlemen that really got me intrigued with this spring package on a "not so high a lift cam"
I dont' know if there is more valvetrain wear? or noise? or if its a knife to a gunfight scenerio..

I think you went the right way <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" /> 918's will be perfect for your setup.There is no reason to run dual springs unless a huge Cam or real high rpm Cam is being used.You'll also get more HP with the 918's <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

Thanks for the responses. I'm wondering if I should have done a square cam because of my headers? I will always have cats and the difference between 222/224 is so insignificant it probably doesn't even matter.
I'm hoping with the underdrive pulley and tuning to be right around 400 RWHP. That should be good enough for this season

I think you made a good choice. I hope you hit 400rwhp!
On the 918 issue I have talked to a few engine builders who still strongly believe in 918s. I have them and they are working great for 4kmiles.

you should hit 400 hp. I have stage 1 heads that are close to stock ls6 heads and i put out 389 hp 382 tq with less than a thousand miles on moter. I added a ported tb and more break in miles and the car went from 113 mph to 119 mph as it broke in. No other changes or weight reduction.I still dont have an underdrive pully so with that you should see 400. P.s . I have the hammer cam. .222/.222- .566/.566 on a 112 lsa. I am going to redyno soon and I think I will see 400 rwhp but am happy where I am if it stays at 389 because the car is quick now. see what it does at the track ,not on the dyno .
I agree, it's the area under the torque curve not the peak HP numbers. I learned that from racing motorcycles years back. You can make a ton of HP but if it's only available in a 1500RPM range then it's useless. I am getting excited now! I've been getting a ton of positive responses on my choice. I'm just trying to get an idea what the extra HP will feel like and if it will be apparent when driving. This will be the most HP gain I have ever gotten on any of my cars....wooohoooo!!!!!
