How much to notch pistons for G5X3 on 112?
I'm unsure how much to notch the pistons on my motor when I pull the heads off? I'm looking at Thunder's page with the Isky piston notching tools, and there's like 8 different ones listed. What diameter do I need? I'm gonna be running the stock heads. Maybe I should have just got the G5X3 on a 114 instead..

Haven't spoken to him yet. Been kinda busy lately. I may just go to L.G. and swap it out for the 114. I don't wanna pull the heads if I don't have to. I wasn't able to get on this site in Iraq and thought the 112 would have been ok. The easiest thing would be to just exchange it, since I gotta run to Dallas soon anyways.

Well, It's up to you to take a risk. If you get any valve float (and you will) you'll be kissing your pistons goodbye.
IMO anything less than 0.12 clearance is suicidal, and I don't care how many will say it's fine.
Still if you get the 114, you'll have to use a dial indicator to really make sure of your clearance.

I have never run any of my LS1's over 5500. That's just me. Usually 5000 is as high as I took them. The one is going to be for cruising and not for racing. Sure I may get on it some, that's the whole reason for building the car like I am. It's going to be a driver. I should probably have gone with a X2, but I wanted one of Lou's cams regardless. I just prefer LG products. I PM'd Lou about the cam, waiting on a reply.

With that cam you'll start making power at 5500, so your habits will change believe me, otherwise go and exchange it for a cam that fits your needs. I bet it is a sweet car, i have a 69 RS/SS with a 502 CID. i wouldn't let it go for the world. Had it for 22 years, now.

If you are not going to rev the engine then this is not the cam for you. Go with something else like a tourqer cam. BTW the G5X-3 on 112 cam will fit without notching on stock deck height heads. I'm running it myself, and have had no problems. Oh yeah, I shift at 6750rpm. No valve float here.

Yea, I'm sure I'll end up carrying it higher than that. I am looking at heads now anyways. I might as well go all out on it and do it right the first time. It should be more fun to drive anyways..
