Do Any pre-2001 ls1 Come Have the Upgraded Rod Bolts?
#21
Do a search for Ferrules on here and you will find a pic of them. Basically instead of the bolts having a step or shoulder built into the bolt they have ferrules instead. If u loosened a rod bolt up u would have been able to figure it out....I'll see if I kept my bolts and if so ill take a pic for reference.

Well i doubt my car has the upgraded bolts, since my car has ASC # 132 so it was one of the earlier models of WS6 for 2000. But hey if in mid 2000 they were switched, then thats good news for those that had a later built 2000 LS1.

Here is something I stumbled on. The attached image references a portion of a 97-02 C5 parts list.
Item #116 is the connecting rod bolt. A first bolt part number 10239136 (no ferrules) is listed with the 97 and 98 model years, and a second bolt part number 12568069 (with ferrules) is listed with 97-01 model years (including the 01 LS6). Presumably the later part number references the 97 and 98 model years because it is compatible with the 97-98 models.
Anyway, since the part number changed in 99, this at least implies that 99 and later model years included the later (i.e., stronger) bolt. Whether or not that really occurred is another story.
It has been established that at least some 00 model years have bolts with ferrules. I don't recall whether or not any 99 model years have been found with ferrules. So the questions are

1) has anyone found ferrules with their 99 rod bolts?

Old thread I know, but did and '02 engines come without the ferrules? Got one I'm building that the guy said it's from an '02 SS but it's got the rod bolts with the step in it with no ferrules and the light threading all the way up like the one on the left in the attachment the Russ K put up.
