Best cam for my WIFES 2003 ZO6? Im picking up a 2003 bone stock ZO6 for my wife tomorrow and already have a set of headers and air intake on the way. What would be the best mild cam to use with the stock LS6 heads? I pretty much just plan on doing headers, air intake and maybe a different cat-back for mods. I will also be getting either LS1edit or HP tuners plus I already have wideband for tuning. I guess I am basically asking what would be the best mild cam for a ZO6 with bolt-ons? |
The ZO6 cam is the best mild cam. But a 228-230 .575 will work also. Nate |

Define "mild". Do you want near stock idle, driveability, lope? Are you concerned about spring wear? MTI's Stealth Cam II would be nice. TR224 on a 114 also. |
Jeez, for your wife...the STOCK one. Does she really need car any faster than what a stock Z06 already is, lol. Just kidding. The stock Z06 cam is not the best mild cam. There are definitely better ones..I would recommend you get a custom grind perfectly suited to your mods and needs. If I were you I would email your question to trevor@texas-speed.com and be very specific as to what you are looking for in terms of idle quality, driveability, and power and torque desires throughout the power band. I have emailed many vendors and Trevor is by far the best at responding. Not only does he respond quicker than anyone I have ever come across but his responses are VERY thorough, professional and friendly. On top of that TSP has the best prices on cam packages that I have seen, especially for the quality parts they have in it. For example:camshaft kit that would include your choice of camshaft, the Precision Race Components dual valve springs rated to .660" lift, titanium retainers, hardened spring seats, new valve seals, and TSP hardened pushrods for $699.99 + shipping. Good luck! Z06's are sweet! Your wife is one lucky woman! No I don't work for TSP, just very impressed with their service and prices. |

www.vincihighperformance.com the 047 cam might be a little much. but roger had it in his 03 corvette until they updated to the 055 cam. there are sound bytes for the cam on the valvetrain page. |
Well like I said, my opinion is to email Trevor and tell him what you want and I gaurantee you won't be dissapointed. Or you could email the guys at Futral as i hear they really know their stuff when it comes to cams too, but their prices are not as good. For the record i emailed trevor and Futral yesterday at the same time-havent heard back from futral yet but got two big detailed emails back from trevor already today before noon. There are tons of cams that will fit your needs and you'll hear lots of different opinions that will make your head spin. I think the best thing is to contact the guys who actually make the cams and have the grind something up that will suit you perfectly and not look back :) As far as specs, the 224/224 cams on a 114lsa seem to be the most popular for a street car that will idle and drive well with a good tune, but again i recommed you get the custom grind so they can tweak it to perfectly fit your car & needs. |
My wife loves to drive the SS with the mods below. Idle is good, very little surging if any, and just enough sound to know its not stock. So I would recommend the tr224 on a 114lsa. |
Damn I feel like kind of a pansy right now I just order an MTI stealth II, your wife's going to have a bigger cam than me :( |
The TR224 114LSA would be a sweet cam and meet your requirements easily. Also think about the TSP 228R. Both would work well. |

my wife drives my car all the time!!! |
Another vote for a tr224 114lsa. I have one in my SS and with supporting mods, headers, Y pipe, intake, and pulley I put down 397rwhp. VERY street friendly... with the cutout closed you can barely tell. When I bought it I thought 114 wouldnt lope as much as I wouldve liked but it does just enough. I bet shed like it. |
