Who has revved their H/C 346 over 7500? With stock rods?
Just as the subject states: I am looking for those who have revved their 346's past 7500 on a regular basis.
I have a 346 with Wiseco's and rod bolts-just wondering if anyone has run theirs that hard with the stock rods. My new combo should peak over 7k-I don't want to get into the shortblock again until next year(building a new motor.) I know that the rods are the weak link. I don't need opinions on that-just wondering who has done it, how long it lasted, and how long it took you to clean up the mess afterwards.
I've seen plenty of folks running in the low 10's and high 9's on the squeeze with the stock rods; how many are turning some R's as well?

He is talking about the shortblock he has now. He has intentions of building a new shortblock, eventually, that will have good rods in it. Just trying to figure out if the block he has now will last until the new one is done.

I have stock rods, wiseco pistons, and arp bolts in my current 346. The new motor will have forged h-beams at the least, prob. billet rods.
I will need to get the tune dialed in before it will run well over 7500-It should peak around there once it's done. I hate to rev it that high with the stock rods, but I know that I won't be happy with the numbers unless I do.

I have turned a stock shortblock w/ ARP rod bolts 7500rpm on many occasions, with many different setups. The rods really are not that bad. It is the bolts that are the weak link the entire equation.
RPMs do kill motors, so don't expect 100k+ miles out of it.

I don't expect it to last forever; I just don't want to spend anymore money on it right now. I have plans for a new shortblock after next season.
Jason-How high are you shifting your new setup? Mine is very similar.

Change out the rod bolts and stay behind the bleeding edge (i.e. the crazies who really push stock bottom end cars).

Read my original post--I have rod bolts already.
Louis-I'm not planning on shifting the car past 7500-7600rpm, but I think that it will be pushing 8k going through the traps once it's figured out.
I thought that Thunder and Ed wright had figured out a way to get the stock pcm past 8k; I would love to be able go through the traps higher than 8000 once the new shortblock is in.
