Default Is it worth changing AS stage 2 head & 230/236 cam?

I have a 01' SS. The car has all the mods in my sig.....plus Absolute Speed stage 2 5.3's and a 230/236 .591 .601 112 lsa cam. I also have ARP rod bolts, Yella Terras (1.7's), Comp 977's w/ comp r lifters..... the car is put together right!!

Now my question is...is there a heads/cam combination out there that you would say could get me 20-30 if not more hp by switching to?

Or would you say that the only way that I could justify spending more money on the car's engine would be to go bigger cubes....between the price of new heads and cam (I would be selling my current setup) and the $ for RR.

I am waying some options right now...and some input would really help!!

I am seeing some of these new cam being crammed into stock and aftermarket heads, and I thought my cam was big.

What do you guys think??

IMO it would not be worth the time and money involved for maybe 20+rwhp over your current setup. It's possible you might not even make much more power than your current setup. You would be better off going with more displacement in terms of money spent = power gained. Another option would be to add a small shot to your setup. 230/236 cam would love the spray and you would make some awesome power with your setup. I'm in the process of adding a TNT 100 Wet shot to my setup. Odds are that i'm gonna be pleased with it.

i dunno man, other than going to a ported stage2/stage 3 ls6 head maybe like said before, it wouldnt be worth it, at least not to most people, to go through that for 10-15 hp, which is probably all it would be worth. also, are u just lookin for peak numbers?? hows your power under the curve??
id say hook up a little juice....like already said, u already got a cam with a big exhaust duration....which would definitely be a nice spray cam. good luck man
nice setup by the way

Thanks for the feedback.

The car was dynoed but.....unfortunately it broke a driveshaft on the dyno...the last reading was 416 hp and 386 tq...I think I had a couple hundred RPM to go though.

This is through a Moser 12 bolt w/ 4.11's....and a kinda crummy day last Nov.
The air was kinda thick...and moist....your typical day in Central Florida!!

I personally think that I could pick up some HP by changing exhaust, but I don't know if it is worth it.

I need to get the thing setup for the strip (rims and slicks/et streets). It trapped 118 with 275 kumho ecsta 712's

It is definitely strong...and worthy of putting up some good trap speeds!! Stock weight w/10" sub and amp in the back...also I am 6' 2" 200lbs!!!

Thanks for the kind words about my choice of mods.

I feel that I put together a really good car...strong as an ox...fast *** hell...and with good quality parts. Didn't want to have to do it a second time cuz something stupid broke...yah know!!

I am not looking for just peak numbers....they are nice but not what I am looking for. I want to have the fastest car possible down the track for the amount of mods that I have compared to other similarly modded cars!! Time slips...and the occasional street *** whoopin on someone is what I am after!

Keep it as is . It sounds like a nice combo . I would just strap on a nitrous kit and never look back.

I would honestly prefer to stay just motor...I want the power to always be there...but not if it costs me an arm and a leg to swap heads and cam.

Maybe later on I will do bigger cubes...i dunno

I have thought about nitrous....but I don't know what setup to get that would be safe....really don't want to pay to have the motor put back together....if I am going to pay for motor work...it will be a 408!!!

if you REALLY want every last bit of hp/tq possible, then maybe a h/c swap will be worth it to you. i'd really only tear your motor apart again to install another nice sized cam and stg2/3 ls6 heads, like 35thZ said earlier. Nitrous is the quicker, easier way to get the power. If neither of those options appeal right now, save some money and go FI or bigger cubes. Nitrous/FI would be my route tho since most of your car is already built up.

Just go with nitrous, a bigger fuel pump, and your all set.
