Default AFR 205's + small cam (T1)

Well I figured I'd pop this question on here since I've been throwing around the idea of putting on some heads this winter.

How do you guys think a set of AFR 205s would do with a cam like the T1? That baby cam did 386rwhp on the stock heads, I'd think the AFR's could bump that up to around 415-420 easily. The 205's theoretically should help it breath better up top, but have great port velocity for good punch in the midrange. I drag the car regularly, but it is still primarily a street car, and I think this could be a good setup for the street. I'm not looking for any 10 second world beater, but mid 11s at 120, while not being a dog around town would be ideal. I like that these heads are a stronger aftermarket casting for durability's sake, and I think they'll give me room to grow should I want to move up to a bigger bumpstick down the road. Right now I'm really happy with the T1, been running it for almost 3 years (back when it was considered a "big" cam!), easy on the valvesprings, gets good mpg (not that i really care), didn't sacrifice any of the low end, sounds great, and makes power without spinning to the moon.

So what do you guys think? I was looking at 5.3 S2 heads before, but the AFR's seem like a better idea maybe.

Thanks!

i think it'd be a great street setup and should provide an excellent tq curve .

i also had a T1 back in the day, great little cam.

410 -420 shouldn't be a problem.I would see how much you can mill the heads for some more compression first.Might be worth another 20hp or so in the midrange.

I would think 415+ rwhp easily with a nice midrange curve due to the small 205cc intake runners. I'm in the same boat as I am gonna keep my small TR224 for quite some time, my car makes 416 hp and drives 98% like the day it came off the showroom floor.

If you milled the AFR's down to abuot 59cc'c and have an LS6 intake and the rest of the bolt-on goodies I would imagine that 440+ should be reality. I made 426 RWHP/400 RWTQ with a B1 cam and MTI LS1 Stage II ported heads.

I'll let you know how they do with my c1 cam when I get them installed in a couple days. Don't know when I'll get a chance to dyno though.

We just did a h/c change using AFR 205's milled .024" mounted on a Cometic .040" mls gasket. The cam is a Comp XE-R 224/228 .581"/.588" 114LSA on a 113 ICL. We used TSP hardened 7.400" pushrods. The car has an LS6 manifold, TPIS headers, RT cats and Xpipe and Z06 mufflers. It is an M6 2000 C5 FRC. We also installed a set of 28.8lb injectors. The car did 423rwhp, 398rwtq. Stock rear gears, with a LUK Stage 2 clutch and Fidanza alum flywheel. We also put an ASP UD pulley on, and a VaraRam.
Inside the motor the pistons were out the hole ~.004" - .005". That put our quench distance at .035" - .036". P/V was measured using a dial indicator to be .094" intake and .125" exhaust. Torque was around 320 ft. lbs from 2.6krpms to about 3.1k rpm's then peaked around 4750 rpm's and was only down a few ft lbs at 5K. We have some more to do on this motor but it is everything we expected and more.
Idle is just like stock at 850rpm's, no noticable lope and the car is very stealthy until you put foot into it. The car is totally streetable. You could take it for a Sunday cruise, and the gas mileage is about 3mpg better than before.
Hope this helps.
