is the crank locked? either 4th gear (m6) or lock the flex plate (a4). and all you need is a 24mm socket and a long breaker bar, it really not that hard.

your in the middle of a swap and you dont know that , you sure you want to tackle this?

anyway, you'll need a flex plate locking tool or a big ******* screwdriver. you'll need to drop the starter or remove that circular plate thats on the tranny or tranny cooler.

If it is an auto you need to drop the starter and you'll be able to hold the flexplate in there...big ******* screwdriver is right. It is a bitch.

Also, tightening it is a bitch too. It is regular thread, not reverse.

Good luck!

I did, and the engine was out. I had to hold the BF screwdriver in, then use the electric impact gun. Came right off.

I always use an impact and never have had any issues getting it off. Only twice have I had to use a long breaker bar. Hd some one hold the flywheel with a screwdriver on the bellhousing access hole. Good luck!

A good impact and just let it work for a little while. build some more pressure and work again, it will come off.

I use an good impact gun with 160psi of air pressure and never had a problem.Try ussing a torch to heat the bolt area, then it should come out easilly.(make sure you have a new front seal)

I used a 24" breaker bar, which I destroyed. Thanks a lot Great Neck, you suck . Autozone gave me a new one and it got the job done. If the engine is turning before the bolt breaks loose, it may be losing compression. Are the spark plugs still in place? If the motor isn't turning over, then your impact gun is a weak little bitch. Yeah, that's right. You tell him I said that.

The flywheel locking tool is about $50 from GM. Just drop the starter and bolt it in its place. Works like a dream. Its gonna be just as much fun putting the balancer back on.

Right tools make things easier....
