Building an Iron Block 402/408, is it bad to use a used 6.0 block

Default Building an Iron Block 402/408, is it bad to use a used 6.0 block

what problems may present itself with a used 6.0 Lq4 or 9 block or should I disk out the extra $$$ for a new block

Actually, a used block is preferred because it is already been heat cycled and "seasoned". A new block is more likely to shift and distort than a used block.

thats why most new blocks are stress relieved, if done properly at least. this is pertaining to aluminum blocks though.

Just make sure there isn't any damage to it like spun mains. Besides that there is NO reason not to use an older block. We do all the time. Right now we are having hell even getting new iron blocks anyway!

are most guys going with the 408 getting LQ9 or LQ4 blocks - any diff?

Well some of the newer blocks have all shorter head bolts but here's really no other significant differences I can tell.
