tsp 231/237 with comp 918's

I am about to get the tsp 231/237 and I was wondering if I is really that safe to run it with the comp 918's? I was doing some searches and it seems like some people on the board run them and havent had a problem with it. But others say to just get the PRC's from texas speed or the patriot dual's. I know it would be smarter to just go with the dual's and be safer, but is it really possible to be able to run it with the comp 918's?

It's possible. I only ran it wih 918's 'cause the 918's were already installed from a smaller cam setup. But, if you're gonna do it from scratch, get the duals.

Why would he want that?

And, with the new TSP 233/239 or the 233/233, why would he want the 231/237 unless he already has it purchased?

what would u recomend for 918 sprigs then, cuz that is what he will be using ?

AINT SKEERED Jan 4, 2005 06:06 AM

I just installed the fm13 and am using 918's . NO problem, these are good springs.

If you must limit your cam choice to a set of springs you already have (and have not yet installed), that's working ass backward. If he must run the 918 springs, then the TSP 231/237 is a fine cam for the 918's due to its lazy ramp rates.
The FM13 has more aggressive lobes.

I think someone from TSP stated the the 233/239 would work with the 918's. I could be wrong on that though.

I read that also. I'm not going to question that, but I personally wouldn't run that setup.

No matter what you are running a risk the dual offers a little more safty. I would run the 918's on a 233/239. Remeber this though I am not one to be afriad, i can tear out the motor on a days notice and put parts in it and go agian. I would say go for it if as you are set on the 918's. Just remeber don't over-rev and check them every so often.

Ain't that the truth. You choose springs for a given cam, not a cam for a given set of springs. Do you have them installed already?

.581 lifts XE-R lobes here. 918's, shifting at 6600. (7000+miles)

2000bluess Jan 4, 2005 02:54 PM

No I havent installed them already nor do I have a set of 918's I was just wondering if it was safe to run, or if I should just go with the dual's.

Safe to run TSP231/237 with 918's? Yes. I've done it.
Should you go with the duals over the 918's? Yes.

918's will work fine with this cam. I'm currently running it and have even sprayed a pretty large shot. If you are wondering what one to purchase for the cam, I would run the PRC Spring kit just to have the safety of the dual spring. Also, with the PRC's you have the choice of running a larger cam down the road without having to replace the springs again. However, either spring will work fine for this setup though.
