Default firing up my new cam for the first time tomarrow...

wish me luck

any tips for keeping it running on a stock tune once it fires up? also, should i turn the crank a few times to try and get oil to the valvetrain, or would that be a waste of time?

Did you try turning it over by hand for a sanity check? I disconnected the coil packs and turned the starter just for a check. Then plugged them in, prayed for a second, fired it up , held breathe for 5 seconds waiting for oil pressure and then everything was cool. It will hunt for idle so keep giving a little gas until it stabilizes. It will continue to do this when you come off the throttle while driving around so be prepared to heel/toe it to gradually get it into idle range so it will converge faster.

woah. Not sure of the specs, but I can guess.

You going to get a tune? From what I know, a tune will really help get your a/f in line, and also let you idle.

My experience is to keep your foot of the pedal as much as possible the 1st few minutes. I have the TSP 231/237 cam 112* in my A4. After install, cranked it like normal and didnt touch the pedal at all. She grabbed a higher than normal idle and held it the whole time, worked on a couple other installs too. But once you touch the pedal, it will begin the hunt, and thats a PITA. Good luck and have fun, just dont let her die out during the first few minutes for the cam bearings sake.

Yeah mine fired right up and idled out just like magic, too. Wait until you have to drive the thing, though...

So, how's she doing? What worked best for me as far as getting it to not stall out in neutral and helping hot starts was to turn in the TB screw a little as well as drilling the TB. At first I just had the TB screw turned in quite a bit, but the pcm was having weird problems with it.
