If 100 octane gas was available.......
 

would it cause damage to the engine if used on a daily basis? Unleaded gas of course.

I made a comment on another board that if it was available I would use it all the time. A reply came back saying "it looks like someone wants to burn his valves or pistons".
The LSx engine's recommended fuel is 91 or higher. Would the 100 octane be hurtful or helpful?

I run 98 octane all the time. No damage. I do not see that another 2 octanes would be harmfull. On the contrary since I'm a N2O addict, I'm able to shoot 150 dry on 28* timing and 200 on 26* with TR6's. no issues.

no it wont harm the motor at all... whoever made that comment is ignorant. my advice would be to not take any technical advice from them. :)


however, running 100 octane also wont net you any gains unless you're currently seeing detonation or you have a tune requiring more octane

The 76 stations here in Vegas sell 100 for awhile 100 was ony 1.25 more a gallon...than premium @4.50 a gallon your wallet will deffently be lighter

I had a very strong feeling that it would not harm anything but my wallet. But I had to ask to ahhh.....feel better about my knowledge of engines.

The LS1GTO site was a place I thought would have a more muture membership. Alas, I was wrong.

Even if it was avalible, it would be pointless unless you tuned your computer to use it. Your car would probablly also make less power. Motors make the most HP at the point just before detonation, so if your motor dosen't detonate with 89 octane, then jacking the octane to 98 would drag you that much farther from detonation, which would drag you that much farther from peak HP. If you tune it to use the ocatane, then that's a diffrent story. Sounds like PREDATOR-Z did it right.

I think the 98 Octane you have in Dubai is the RON, its around 94 PON Pump Octane Number when converted which is the standard used in the US at gas stations so what you are using is 94 actually. I am from Bahrain and we have been having a hard time getting anything better than 89 here at any gas station !! Talk about detonation. Dubai has the best fuel grade in the Middle East!

it would absolutly not smell better. you are smelling the lead in the racegas that makes it sweet- 100 unleaded would smell no different than 93 unleaded or 87 unleaded.

i wish it was at pumps. i know i could make use of it, but obviously just putting it in your car would not net any gains.

burning a valve? not even leaded gas will do that. that person is a tool.

Here in Florida I have 2 stations that carry 100 @ the pump . Both of them are right on the way to the track . 10 miles is the most I have to drive to get it .

Isnt 100 octane low lead? There is a place(24 hour pump) here that has it for $2.19!

there are some sunoco stations in central florida that sell 100 UL, does smell better, but should for $4/gallon.

In Maryland Sunoco sells unleaded 100 and 104 octane Racing fuel. They recommend using the 104 if you have a CR of 12.1:1 dome piston and 14.1:1 disk. you can get and it will be costly.

100 octane low lead is aviation fuel and has a different burn rate......

Unless you are running 12:1+ I don't think 100 octane is needed. Depending upon cam some guys are running 12:1 on 93 octane.

When I would run 116 leaded race fuel in my turbo car the "sweet smell" was there. At $8.50/gallon I hope it smells a little different :burn:

If you don't need a higher octane don't use it. I work in a refinery, when we blend gasoline we run a knock engine as we are blending. When we blend premium gasoline we find alot more carbon on the head and piston top after the blending. The motor runs off of a random stream taken from the blend line. The motor is used to adjust the octane level of the blend. So if you don't need it don't use it unless you like carbon build up.
