Default 918's or dual springs for TR 224/224 .563???

Decision made on this cam, but would like input on the springs...

Are the dual springs big time overkill with only .563 lift?

Or are the 918's, good to .600 lift, I think, the right way to go..

Thanks..

I have 15,000 miles on that cam with 918's, and the springs still have 130 lbs+ seat presure just like when new. Rev limiter at 6750 rpm.

918's will hold that cam just fine.. its the same cam I had and they held fine. I had one break though do to the defect they had 3 years ago in the springs. But thats all well now since they started making them better.

but 918's are on cars with cams almost twice that size and around .600 lift.. some like pushing springs to the max, but with only .563 lift you will have no issues at all with them.

good luck

I am very interested in this, (just got a tr224), i want my valvetrain to be as close to bulletproof as I can get it.

From everything i've see with this cam, its alwyas with the 918 springs, and it seems that works well, thats great, but since i hate cracking the valves open to check them, wouldnt it make more sense that one of the bigger valvesprings out there would last longer? or are there other factors like the material prc and ppgolds are made out of that might not make them as good a match for the tr224. I need to buy valvesprings in the next month or two, so I would really like to know the most reliable option out there (as in, if i can go 50kmiles with another spring, vs 30 or so with the 918's, i'm going with the other spring).

anyone have any info on that? and yes, i've searched this before

For reliability sake go the dual valve springs. I busted a dual valve spring in 2 places the other day. The engine is still uncracked! Without the secondary spring I would have put a valve through the piston and lunched the engine.

My spring specs. are 100lbs seat pressure and 300lbs compressed to 0.6". On stock valve gear, they are good for 550 thou lift.

there IS such a thing as too much spring. 918's are pretty bulletproof for a cam like this. as long as you don't over-rev as a habit, you'll be ok.

918's are good for that cam but when you get a tune make sure you dont move your rev limiter past 6600 because if you go past 6600 those springs wont last.

thanks guys,

I'm starting to get the impression that, there is no spring better suited for the tr224 than the 918's. well, i plan on ti retainers also, and probably a 6500rpm rev limiter. My car wont see that much dragracing, but it will see its share of autocross and Open Track type roadracing, which is why i want to have it somewhat overbuilt. When doing that, the motor is between 3500rpm and 6000+ for 20-30 minutes at a time.

again thanks guys

I went with patriot golds dual valve spring kit. For the price you can't beat it and having dual valve springs means two things. Better insurance they'll last longer and if you ever want to upgrade to a bigger cam.

Default question further

But, are the PP golds too much spring for that cam?
