Default ASA Cam: Who's running it do ya like it?

is ASA Cam really lopey? and is it a good cam for stock LS1. I know it's a little big for stock heads, but i am going to couple it w/stronger valvetrain. I am planning on going w/better heads in the near future. just wanted to start out w/cam and Z06 intake since i already have access to them. I guess a better question is should I do cam and heads together or can i install cam, valve train and intake now without risking anything.

thnx

You can install the cam now with out doing heads. just change your springs, and pushrods.

What do you mean its big for stockl heads? 224/230 isnt big. .525/.525 isnt big. the 110 LSA is kinda iffy, but this cam is DEFINITELY on the small side. Does anyone have the gm part number for it BTW? How would it compare to the Hotcam?

I like the idea of the ASA cam, but would like a bit more lift. Not .591-.600 like some of the spring killers out there, but .551/.566 would be nice on the same 226°/236° and 110° LSA. Do you guys know if the ASA cam is ground with 4° advance like most other LS1 cams?
I think with the lift I stated that the Patriot Gold springs or Comp 918s would last a pretty long time.
That is my idea anyway .

There isn't going to be a lot of difference between a .566 lift and a .600 lift to some good springs like Comp 918's. That's only 34 thousandths of an inch, not much difference to a spring that is 2,000 thousandths inch tall. It's more the ramp rate and cold revs that's hard on springs. On the other hand, it's the fast ramp rates that give LS1 cams good low rpm power and decent idle quality.

If you need more lift some aftermarket rockers with a slightly higher ratio would do the trick nicely. But I guess you might as well just buy the right cam without needing extra parts.

I would not mind if somebody would post up a dyno sheet with the ASA cam.
I'm thinking about getting either the GM hotcam or the ASA. (NO valve spring changes EVER )

Will they pass a smog test with a tune???

I see. I wonder if you never drove the car untill it was at operating temperature if Comp 918s would last 30,000 miles with a .591" lift? Mostly street duty. 5-10 track apperances a year.........I wonder.
