Yeah I see a consistent 116-119 trap speeds from these things with minimal mods(good tires, cold air and some tuning).

Do I dislike Ford? Yup...but you have to give respect where respect is due.

Stock it ran 12.8 at the track again just confirming exactly what I just wrote. Again think about how many people on this site have driven their car with no mods at all and broke into the 12's also. Let me again point out that is without a supercharger. Just like everyone else has said we are comparing apples to oranges here.

I also have had a supercharger on my car and by no means was it one of the best pieces of equipment. I bought a powerdyne and this put me well over 400hp. I only saw one supercharged mustang while I had a supercharger on there and that was a saleen and there was still no contest all the way past 160 or 170 mph.

I will give respect where it is due but come on, ford has not done anything that chevy has not done as well. Lets also keep in mind that the f-body discontinued in 2002. What would have happened if GM continued to produce these cars. For instance the 2 prototypes that were going to come out with 427's lets see an 03-04 cobra touch one of those

i believe that the new cobra motor deserves alot of credit, SVT finally did something special. But since I am a GM fan i prefer the LS1/LSX series motors they make alot more n/a horsepower and have proven great race engines time and time again.

You guys are tripin, do you guys remember this original thread was about how to talk **** to my ford friends and not about how to kiss fords ***. Shure I will take my hat off to a ford that beats me but you guys are takeing it overboard with all this ford love.Remember pound for pound GM will always win just think of what a ls1 will do with a super charger and the same boost as 03 cobra. All ford does is bite GM's nuts by copying the ls1, now their new ponys have all alumuinm blocks their intake looks familier and now they have individual coil packs.Holly ********* batman were do you think they got those ideas.

Sure the Cobra motor is fast but it needs a supercharger to get it there. A cam swap and some bolt ons in the LSx motor and bam you're already surpassing what ford can do with fi, that is weak. I'm not saying that the Cobra motor is slow but come on a blower and 390 hp. The LS6 405 N/A. Take the blower away and what do you have, nothing. Ford is just damn lazy, you would think they could engineer something better but they don't. It's just sad that they have to resort to a blower to get it where it can be really competative in stock form against N/A motors. The Cobra motor its self is almost $12,000 390 hp 390ft.lbs., LS6 around $5,000 405hp 400ft.lbs., which makes more sense? You tell me.

The LS1 has been around way longer than the SC Cobra motor. That means that there is more info out there on the LS1 as opposed to the Cobra motor. I view that SC Cobra motor as Ford trying to spit on the grave of the F-Body. Lets face it, the blown Cobras were only made for 2 years, the first year being only 1 year after the end of the F-Body. Cobras also have a huge overheating problem with the #7-8 Cylinders. In the end the Cobra motor is not as flexable as an LSx motor, and they sure as hell arn't as reliable. The stock vs. stock goes to the Cobra, but an LS1 will easily whoop *** with very little money. So in the end LS1>Cobra.

Its interesting that this is even an issue. The cobra motor requires overhead cams, and a supercharger. Its nice because you dont have to go out and buy the supercharger. A supercharged ls1 is a nightmare to anyone on the road. In stock form they are nightmares, and you know what...? They are older. The only reason this is being compared is because the mustang would have normally been the enemy of the f body if it still existed. These motors are being compared because the cars should be compared, but the engines are so different. Someone mentioned the lt5... an old engine that showcased lots of new technology... and no boost. GM did not abandon the lt5, look at the northstar. The 4.6 northstar engine.. no boost, designed for the ultra smooth power band and idle demanded by a luxury car... 320 hp. Gm engineering is excellent. It is one thing to advance a standard with new technology, and it is a different one to refine an old one. The ls1 is a refined classic, it is tried and proven, and everyone know s it. This is the comedy.... a technological powerhouse IS being compared to classic small block chevy design... Its an embrasement to ford that this thread even exists, their engine blows. Had gm slapped a blower on the lt5 it would have been taking NEW enzos. Dont believe me? look at what lingenfelter has done to the lt5 by just retiming the cams... add boost and its ALL over. So how come ford so many years later, since they have already done these things, cant get these numbers?

The ls1 is the pinacle of performance for the 5.7 and in this sense is perfection.

Exactly, to me either the engineers at Ford are dumb, or they are just to lazy to try and engineer something great. I don't understand why because I'm pretty sure they have the resources to make a much better engine but they don't. As far considering OHC motors as new technology they really aren't, they have been around since the 1920's, yet a lot of people think the damn thing was invented yesterday.

02 was the last year of the f-body ... now let's compare that to a 02 ford anything ... f-body will destroy it

now in 03-04 came a supercharged cobra ... well let's compare that to a 03-04 Z06 ... again chevy wins

now 05 ... ls2 for chevy and the new mustang gt for ford ... i wonder who's faster ... that's right chevy wins again

06 they are gonna bring out a new cobra, well you think it'll touch the 06 z06?? i don't think so

and comparing a vette to a mustang is not unfair, since f-bodies all came with vette motors, and we are comparing motor to motor

end of story
