Default So whats the best small budget thing I can to for Heads?

I don't have very much cash laying around but I need more power what would be the recommended course of action? I've been looking at varios different things / settups I could possibly do on a superlow budget. However I wasn't able to find one clear cut "budget" heads setup or what budget mods to do on my stock heads. Any advice would be great! Thanks Guys!

For heads? Best I would think would be to try and find some used LS6 heads, then swap them out with your stockers.

Or a Torque Converter, like JRP said.

port and polish em yourself. costs nothing if you have carbide bits and various polishing wheels.

hey Bo,
How long does it usually take you to do them after you get them and ship them back?

I'm surprised nobody said a valve job!

Why not help the air into the chamber without affecting the port flow dynamics?

REmove the restrictions without changing the tuning (*much*).

My turn around time is 4 weeks. The price on my website is someone sending a pair of assembled heads and I port/polish, machine and reassemble them shipped back to ya. I can do a core exchange as I have a few pairs here
A valve job can be a good thing to do for someone on a real tight budget but you will spend enough doin it that my price is hard to beat for an econo head.

I've been looking at torque converters as well. Only thing is I wouldn't want to install it myself, seems like those Trans-->motor bolts would be a PITA to get off and back on again, granted changing heads is most likely a PITA too.

Bo, I agree that's pretty hard to beat for some "econo heads", also the numbers and mirror look great on the throttle body work. Would that price be the same deal as the heads and you would be P&P on my current TB?

I've also been tossing around the idea to switch out the diff gears. I'm just not sure on what I would switch too, but If I remember right there is place near me that does them out the door $350 and said they would guarantee that it wouldn't whine going down the freeway.

thanks for the advice

I have the flow numbers in the General Motors section of my website. The one I had flowed had 218/82cc ports and production valves and went 272/222 on a very reliable flowbench and operator on a 3.900 fixture. I have been working on a new intake port that will cc out around 220 or so and will go 280cfm or better with the same production 2.00 valve. The stock LS1 heads usually go high 220s and mid 180s on this same bench.

You can't beat what a good converter does for our cars. TSP has the TCI ssf3500 cheap...it will be a HUGE improvement over what you have now and along with a trans cooler is bar none best bang for the buck as far as mods go. Be prepared to have to buy drag radials though..hee hee
