Default cam comparisons inside! smaller vs LG cams with dynos!

Here are a quick handful of cam dynos I snagged... I did this comparison for another board so figured you could all use them! There was a big discussion on how big cams have no low end and tend to be "dyno queens"... so I decided to let you all decide on the differences!

This one is a 01 M6 SS - bolt ons, stock LS6 heads, LSX 90/90, G5X4 cam with 23 degrees max timing, 4.10 gears and 18 inch wheels with drags (started dyno late because car was blowing the tires off on the dyno and I had to roll into the throttle slowly!)

This is a 1998 Trans Am A4 with a 3500 stall, bolt ons, G5X3 114 cam and touched up heads (he did them in his garage, I dont think they made a whole lot of power and they still use stock valves). This car also has a nitrous tune on it with 22 degrees of max timing so its down about 10 rwhp or so

This is a 2002 SS M6 with a TR224 cam, full bolt ons, 4.10 gears

This is a 1998 A4 Z28 with stock stall, bolt ons and a TR220 cam

This is a 2000 A4 Z28 with a 3800 stall, full bolt ons, Absolute Speed stage II 6.0 heads milled for CR and a TR224 cam (had trouble at lower speeds with the stall)

This is a 2000 Z28 M6 with 4.10 gears, full bolt ons, G5X2 112 cam

This is a 2002 SS M6 with 4.10s, bolt ons, G5X3 112, 18 inch wheels with drag radials

This is a 2000 SS M6 with bolt ons, freshly rebuilt stock engine (spun a rod bearing and rebuilt to STOCK spec), Stock LS6 casting heads and only 500 miles on the engine! It is since much faster since breaking in however no current dynos

This is a 2001 SS M6 with full bolt ons, 4.10 gears, 18s with drag radials, LS6 stock head castings, G5X4 and 23 degrees max timing

This should give a good comparison on numbers between smaller cams and larger cams all on the same dyno in the same shop!

looks like the big cams have plenty of torque to me

all those big cams still have 350 ft/lbs of torque at 3000 rpms. i don't believe anybody races below 3000 rpm's, but i could be wrong (there are some really dumb people in the world)

Looks like the G5X2 did a little better than the X3 in similar setups

those numbers were partially due to QTP 1 7/8 headers, electric water pump and pulley, while the others were running 1 3/4 except the X4 car which also had 1 7/8 headers.

Thanks for the comparison! It's nice to see a bunch of different graphs all in the same place in many different applications.

depending on the valve size it may require flycutting, best to talk to for that is Lou or Louis at LG Motorsports... they will tell you whats required!

Is this a fair representation of the TR224 Cam? I guess I'm a tad disappointed in it, but what's up with the A/F ratio on this car??

The wideband wasnt hooked up, thats just where it puts it automatically... Far as the cam power, remember in AZ everyone is much lower due to our bad gas and the fact that we cant run timing or a/f ratios like the rest of the US Gotta love 91 octane full of ether, 4000 foot DAs and 100-120 degree days!
