to save a few bucks, get a nonported. I guarantee it will do the job.

But if you must have ported, see which manufacturer is doing their own work versus selling someone elses and charging more. Get one that has been dissasembled and blueprinted.

ok well i have just been reading how everyone gets the ported ones and the pressure hasnt changed much. so you say a stock one vs a ported one there really is no difference in the operation of them? and i shouldnt have to worry about turning 6600 rpm with it? anyone know the stock part number for an ls6 pump?

A stock oil pump is as good as a ported one? Really? I haven't ever heard this. Can some more people come in and back this up or refute it?

mine is a 2000 as well, my pressure is about 45 idle and then jumps up going down the road. the ls1 pumps just tend to fail more than the ls6 so its a nice to have it

61 bucks for a stocker is a lot easier on the wallet than 155 for a ported one, esp if there is no true gain from it.

as a matter of fact, i never hear of guys with the old cars port pumps they just get better new pump not reworked stockers

I got the TSP ported pump. Ported in-house by the TSP guys, PSI jumped from 22-25psi to 35-40psi on the highway in 6th.

You don't buy a ported oil pump to see higher pressures. The size of any oil pump is designed produce a specific amount of flow at a given rpm. The resistance to that flow produces the pressure. The resistance to the oil flow is from the bearing and lifter bore clearances.

You buy a ported pump to get as much flow as possible from the pump design by removing unnecessary restriction in the pump.

Higher oil flow rates will move more heat away from critical moving engine parts.

yeah i didnt think a ported pump would really increase the pressure. but i wouldnt think the volume flow rate would change enough to matter, you would have to increase the inlet and outlet area by a lot to get it to flow a lot more, or enough to actually see a clear benefit

higher pressure is a result of shimming, which is done to many ported pumps.

Then I went to M1 0W-40 at the reccommendation of Patman and my pressure never drops below 45. 50psi in 6th at 1500-1900rpms.
