Question Torq Question for Tony M. (or anyone else that might know)...

Hey guys. How many lb./ft. do you torque the rocker studs down to on a set of AFR 205's? I don't want to go too high and put too much stress on the aluminum threads. The studs are ARP I'm prety sure. They came with my rockers from Comp. Also, how much would a stud girtle help?

Stock is 22 ft/lbs, I have to assume the AFR's are the same.

I stand to be corrected, but I think red Loctite on rocker and cam bolts, very critical.

Hello...

22-25 ft/lbs would be adequate...

I normally use teflon thread sealant on the intake and regular motor oil on the exhaust studs. I dont think you need to loctite them in but might be inclined to use the less permanent blue loctite if I did. Mine have never loosened with teflon sealant to seal the intake and oil on the exhaust.

From the factory they have some kind of locktite that sticks so well you can break an eight mm socket getting them loose. Use an impact type socket if possible. Most people don't locktite them when they put them back in, and there doesn't seem to be too many come loose. I've tried it both ways with no problems. Yella Tera says to torque them to 24 ft/lbs, so that's what I do.

Thanks guys. If I recall when I torqued the studs down on the bench before I installed the heads, I torqued them 18 or 20 ft. lbs. w/o loctite. I take it I should redo everything?

Also, my heads didn't come with any paperwork. The box was opened by the place that I baught them through. I ordered the heads in June and got them in August when they were still realy new on the market. I'm sure the guys that work there wanted to take a look at them. Maybe they misplaced the paper work.
