Default Holding up Comp "R" lifters

Doing a cam swap on my 99 SS that has Comp R lifters. Ive heard using the rods to hold up the lifters doesnt work, so is my only other option using pen magnets? I cant find enough of them at all the local hardware stores combined!

The stock lifter holders should work just fine for a cam swap, would suck if one fell though, no different then stock.
