Is there a specific mileage?

If your swapping out the cam then I would do it while your in there, I've never done it but i heard there is alot of slack in the chain. If your talking about just regular maintenance they're pretty durable as opposed to a belt, maybe when your getting close to the 200k mark

Always replace your chin after it doubles

I would at least do a ls2 factory replacement chain when doing a cam swap. the ls2 chain fits on the factory sprockets

If you are "going in" to replace the chain, replace the sprockets at the same time. If the chain has enough miles to be worn, the sprockets are worn also. Just like a bicycle, a used sprocket will wear out a new chain!!

The LS2 is the replacement chain for the LS1 chain. Go to GM and tell them you need a timing chain for the LS1 and they'll give you the LS2.

You have to remove the sprockets to get the chain off. It is 3 bolts for the cam sprocket. I honestly don't see the need in replacing the sprockets, however, if you get a double roller they come with new sprockets. Chain shouldn't need replacing for a long time as it is not really a maintenance (sp) item. If you ever change cams, I would change the chain. With 100,000 miles on my car my chain had quite a bit of slack in it, however, i have had a large cam in it for half a year. Having an M6's and a cam will wear your chain out more quickly.
