Default Oil Pump to Block Seal?

Im almost ready to install a new oil pump. I've been looking around and havent found the answer. Is there a seal/gasket that seal's the oil pump to the block? I know about the troubled pickup tube oring, but nobody's install direction say anything about this item. Thanks in advance. John Oliver

The oil pump's output into the block is not sealed/gasketed (at least on my block). I'm not sure why but apparently it isn't needed. The water pump, on the other hand, is gasketed. Go figure.
As you mentioned, the input is o-ringed onto the pickup tube.

Ben thanks for the input. I hope you are making out okay trying to figure what went wrong with your motor.

I havent taking the pump off yet it just seems weird that there is no gasket for a pressurized connection as important as this is.... Later John

Ps Ben did you get your entry fee back from OLOA.?

It was strictly a needle bearing failure, from what we could tell. They just "leaked" out from one of the rollers and things went downhill from there.
Oddly enough, the owner of the machine shop that was rehabbed the block/crank pulled a lifter off the counter that was also missing its needle bearings- same thing happened to him.

I'm working on getting the entry fee back- Brock will be back in next week and I'm confident I'll get the fee back.

On the upside, I'll be rebuilding and installing the engine this weekend and hopefully making it to an autox.

Ben again thanks for the info. I guess chevy has very precise tolarance for this part>.LOL

The pump was cake to change. But having a lift helped alot, I could see if you were doing this on your back and not having the right angle could make it 'very' hard.

About the entry fee I hope Brock takes care of you. John
