408 stroker... what a machine
 

Just wanted to let you guys know that I just got my car back from Futral Motorsports (Allen and Candy). All I can say is… WOW!! What a beast. For those of you who are like me and need to know that whoever you entrust your car to is going to take care of it… you need look no further. These guys are great. The 408 idles great, is very streetable AND is VERY fast. If you are thinking about a new engine the 408 is full of torque and won’t disappoint you.

Glad to hear a success story in here, seems like its been a while. Glad your loving it. Enjoy.

Nice of you to put in good words for a sponsor who did quality work, I am sure both they and the people thinking of using them appreciate it. The more good news I hear about the 408, the more I want to start saving my pennies to get one.........

RWHP/RWTQ ?????

Congrats on the new engine. Do you have any dyno numbers? How long did it take get the engine built, from start to finish?

How much was the motor $$$?

Allen can give you any amount of power that you want, especially using the 408 iron block. These motors will take a ton of punishment including big shots of nitrous, etc.

Futral was able to give me more than enough power and his price was more than competitive with the other vendors that I called. The bottom line is that I felt comfortable with Allen, as I had talked with other guys on the forum who had work done there. I'm glad I made the decision to go with Futral because my car now has plenty of power and the oil pressure is great.

And one other thing nice about the iron block is that I don't notice the weight increase. Even though it's only 85lbs or so I was worried that I would be able to tell. I can't. However, I can tell that it is a LONG, LONG way from being a built 346. This thing is more like a rocket now than a car. It literally pushes you back into the seat. And if I'm not careful I could hurt a passenger's neck by simply throttling it without telling them. I certainly didn't have this problem before but oh what a problem. I love it.

I remember seeing your car there ;) Allan took me for a ride and we did about 4 donuts in the parking lot, then smoked em through 4th gear down the street.

Nice to hear!!!! I've been looking to do a 408, and just trying to figure out which place to go to is the issue, nothing local here to build so it's all from this site. Get some dyno numbers for us to see what it makes!!! :)

I looked and talked with many shops before choosing Futral. If you guys are looking to do any type of engine build I highly recommend Allen and Candy. They treat you like a real person and follow up by phone. I know all we have is the Internet to help us make decisions and that is why I am going into a little more detail about these guys. Hopefully for anyone looking for engine work they will call these 2 folks and talk with them.

Just to give you an idea of the power I was making...
before doing any heads, LSX intake or 90mm throttle body my engine made nearly 500RWHP. To me this was awesome considering some of the cars I have seen on the forum.

And for those of you who want more... Allen can easily get you to 550RWHP with a daily driver 408.

Want more?... While I was there, Allen showed me a car he is building for a young guy that will have around 1000RWHP. (no nitrous. I'm talking power on demand.) Talk about making some power! The wild part is that Allen doesn't find this difficult. Instead, Allen loves building cars with plenty of HP.

At any rate, for those of you who are thinking about a 408 here is what it feels like to drive one...
1st gear... you better never floor the pedal unless you want the car to spin the rear end (342 gear). Even with 345's (13.5" of rubber) my car will go crazy at just the hint of opening it up. Needless to say you are pressed way back in the seat.

2nd gear... change into 2nd around 4000 and drop the clutch hard and this thing will spin like crazy. Again back in your seat.

3rd gear... the back end of the car will still lose traction and will try to get squirrelly.

Now when I'm in 5th gear this thing pulls like a built Vette in 3rd (maybe even better)

Imagine having over 400 RWTQ at 3000 rpm. Stock barely makes 300 RWTQ at 6500.

You can probably tell that I love this motor and I am soooo glad that I choose to go with the Futrals. All of my worrying about the iron 408 was needless. Even in the Vette I can't tell that the extra weight even exists.

However... I can tell it has a LOT power. In fact, when we were about 100 miles up the road from the shop my wife called Candy and asked her, "How do I get this sh*t eating grin off of my husband's face?" To which Candy responded... "You can't".

that's a nice story, sounds good, glad you are happy. I hope I'm that happy with mine when I get it finished. care to tell us the specs of the motor? CR, cam specs, etc...

All I know is that it runs great
oil pressure is 60psi when cold at idle and averages 50psi at 2000 rpm
(this was my biggest concern as I know people who don't have any oil pressure after a rebuild)

Ahhh.... the Forced Induction 408ci WS6..... That turbo is so big, he's going to have to be careful he doesn't suck up the neighborhood cats ;)
