Iron block or aluminum for my sts??

Default Iron block or aluminum for my sts??

I decided to start ordering parts for a forged 348 shortblock and I am still debating on iron or aluminum. I have an Sts kit and will be boosting about 14pounds or so. Is the iron block worth it? Is it necessary??..Or should I just stick with my stock block?...just wondering on opinions. thanks in advance

If you are looking for a 348 short block then you are looking at a 5.7 aluminum. The iron blocks are 6.0 liters

if you want a budget motor that will handle over 600hp i'd go w/ an iron block 370 inch ls-1. iron block is cheaper, it'll give a little more cubes, and it's much stronger than the iron blocks. if you are going to boost it, i think you're better off goin w/ the iron block. especially long term. i've heard that boost is addictive, so you may start w/ 14 psi, but you might jack it up to 20 pounds in a little while.

I would stick with aluminum but build the motor for it.

That motor block (LS1) is good to well over 700rwhp reliably, no need for added 92lbs.

Default 14 Psi??

Ok I am a noob.... but this week I am installing a STS in my car (Well Billy is doing it for me) and I will be running 7PSI... I have been told anything much above 12PSI will have to be bigger turbo.

Stock lower... with lq4 heads... cam... 42lbs injectors and Intercooled STS I will prob see 500RWHP at 7PSI.

Just food for your thought... when I pull the LS1 and go all forged I may go up to 12PSI hoping for more like 600RWHP

You may want to figure out where you are trying to get to... Just my 2c
