The BEST Cam/setup What is the best Cam or Cam setup for my 2002 firehawk? I was looking at the T-Rex Camshaft by Thunder Racing. But thats about it. I only want the best for my baby... :) |
Did you miss the Cam Guide at the top of this forum? You don't even have to search for it. Click "back" on your browser and look at the very first sticky post. If that doesn't help, search. |
ok. so then since the TREX cam has violent mid to high RPM, then it may not be the best. right? |
What are your goals with your Firehawk. Daily driven street/strip warrier? Weekend race toy? All out race car? What mods have you done to the car? Headers? Intake? Ported TB? Gears? Ported heads? Increased compression? Better suspension and tires? Computer tuning? Don't even consider the T-rex unless you consider all of the above. Answer these question and tell us about your goals and then you can expect a better recommendation. |
Best = ? Most top end horsepower without much low end torque? Serious low and mid range torque with a little less top end? Longevity of your component on a daily driver? Meeting emissions? Having a serious lope or sounding stock? Working well with the rest of your current set up? See where we're going with this? Need to figure out what you want first, then you can decide whats best for you. Good luck, its a fun decision. |
Still want some help? |
F13.... |
F13... I am just going to setup a bot and go reply to the best cam questions and just put f13 on all of them. Josh |
Could go with TR224 on 112,or 114 for emissions/sniffer test if emissions isnt a problem i'd go LG cams , Gx3 ,etc... its gonna need tuning for pretty much ne aftermarket cam over like 224 duration LS6 cam is a decent, silent killer type cam,or the Old man grinds are good too tuning is a must for cams though.. get the maximum power out of them happy modding |

Need to figure out what you want first, then you can decide whats best for you. Good luck, its a fun decision. First.. My Car: 2002 Pontiac Firehawk $5,000 Firehawk Package that include Bilstein suspension, SLP ehxaust, modified Ram-Air hood, etc. (so I don't want to replace certain part that may already be good) Mods: None.. (except the SLP parts) just got the hawk June 9th and I'm not sure what to put in. I heard a cam was a good choice. And this is what I am looking for.... -Daily driven street/strip Warrior is the group I would fall into. Best = -Top end horsepower is nice, I would like to increase that. -Serious low and mid range torque is more important because I wont be going over 70 or 80 mph most of the time. I want to reach 60, 70 and 80 mph as fast as possible. -Longevity of the component for daily driving is also important. -Meeting emissions is necessary, but I dont live in CA, so its not as strict. -Having a serious lope would be really nice. I dont want it to sound stock, I want it to sound "scary" lol -I would't mind having to purcahse more engine components to go along with the cam..so going well with my current setup is not an issue. |
Lisen, people on here arnt trying to be dicks, its just EVERY day there is a question like this...so I know i am going to leave something out but this is a basic list for you to go on.... Here ya go.... Lid/Filter Ls6intake(if your not an 01-02 Longtubes ORY(off road Y-pipe) I say take the cats off Catback(depending on how loud you want it..IE softrumble Hooker--to VERY loud SLP Loud mouth Cluch(prolly spec stage 3 if your car is an m6) Built tranny( if your car is an a4 with at least a 4000 converter) 12bolt with 4:10's---Strange is what i would go with FULL SUSPENSION.....Subframes, Hal 12ways, adj panhardrod, Lower controal arms, relocation brackets, Tourqe arm. TIRES---this is up to you, I assume you have 17's so I would say MT DR.. NOW----the cam-----> With all of this I would say somebody else chime in, because with stock bottem end, and a Trex spinning up to 7000 RPM's, um..NO, so i would look at a TSP/Thunderracing Camshaft...Or call them up, let them decide A cam is a good choice....AFTER You do all the supporting mods... |

About the emmision testing, I think that in Wisconsin they dont do the sniffer test anymore, right? Just plug their thing into our PCM port, and check for any SES lights. As long as the car is tuned and you have taken out certain codes, you will pass. |
