Default cam kit choices...I need opinions MS3/G5X3/F14

Hey everyone, I'm form the CorvetteForum, but frequent your boards due to the overwhelming amount of technical info that transpires over here...

I'm in a cam kit choice dilemna as I have seen so many with in the past and have come to ask opinions while using the search feature for past polls etc....

The car is a non-daily driver 02' ZO6 with stock 3.42 rear end. I will be utilizing the stock 243's and have the normal bolt-ons LG OR LT's, GHL catback, Vararam, air bridge, 160* thermo, Spec 3 clutch/flywheel, and an output shaft.

Now I have it narrowed down to 3, and have always been planning on the G5X3, but have come to a fork where I'm trying to decide if this cam is worth the extra money....

My choices:

1-FMS F14 232/234 114-cam kit is $788 with daul springs(non-Comp 921)etc..

2-G5X3 unknown specs but in the high 230, low 240 range on a 114 with comp 921's etc...$1125

3-TSP MS3 237/242 113-cam kit is on special I believe for $700 with dual springs(non-Comp 921)

As you can see the cost factor weighs in heavily..mostly due to the 921 springs. I'm just looking for great power(broad/peak) and not be to lopey at idle, hence the 114 LSA....

TIA

All thoes cams are pretty rowdy, so if your not looking for something too lopey, you need to change your decision.

if you're staying with 3.42 gear, you might wanna look into different cams. all the cams you mentioned are very 'peaky' and you'll be running off the happy parts of powerband with this setup. I was just trying to optimize a setup for a friend of mine with an X4, and we concluded he needs to shift at 7000rpm and put in 4.56 gears. that's really annoying, unless it's a total drag car, or you just don't mind putting up with it.

if you just want a really fun weekend driver, look into more 'torquey' cams, this way you'll have more fun on the street ( no need to rev past 6k to really get it going), and it will live longer (less valvespring abuse). also, with your stock gears, it might actually produce better results at the track.

as for 'aggresiveness' and 'lope' that's all very subjective, as well as tunable, so make sure that whoever's tuning it isn't some LS1Edit-style IFR hack.

Actually with stock gearing in a Z06, he should be ok... the transmission is geared fairly different, and makes the entire setup act like an M6 /w 3.90's.

Well since your prepared for it. All thoes cams will give really similar results, You can even step it down to the G5X2 and get around the same power and better driveability out of it. For what your looking for I say the G5X2 and the F14 would be a good choice for you.
