Default Question about big hp with only cam added?

Alright, I don't know if I'm the only guy that doesn't understand something or if others are like me. How are people running 400-450 rwhp with a cam only package? Do they have unbeleavable tuning or what is the secret?

A big *** cam and all of the bolt ons that they can buy, with a dyno tune and most likely a M6.

Plenty of 230+ duration cam choices available that are good for 400+rwhp cam-only + full bolt-ons.

So just a 230+ duration cam and bolt-ons? Man, that's all I'm pushin with a h/c combo. If I'm gonna pick up that much hp from just a little bigger cam and a few more bolt-ons then I'm gonna be ordering a bigger cam in a few weeks.

Cam-only 400+ is typical M6 territory (3.42 gears help). A4's dyno less, but make great ETs with a bit less mph.
You'd gain more peak hp for sure, though the TR224 has plenty of usable power.

Also, your stall will need to go higher with a larger cam.

A big cam requires all of the supporting bolt on mods and it has to be tuned correctly.

He's got decent supporting mods.
Stall selection should go hand in hand with cam selection along with what you have out back in terms of gear.
Call some of the sponsors-------->
and ask for their opinion. Futral, Texas Speed, Thunder, MTI, etc. etc. etc.

One more thing, I've heard people having clearance issues with the Patriot Stage II Heads when they try and go with a larger cam, you guys know anything about it?

^ It's the size of the larger valve that can cause ptv problems. Find out what size valves your setup has. Mention this also, along with any milling.

Then make your power using a smaller duration, lower LSA cam.

A 226/226 110 on 110 LSA would make its power down low and work with your stall. It has similar overlap to the low 230s cams.

if you go with a g5x4 or a t-rex (the two that would be my choice) you will need a stall in the range of 3800-4000 and some even recomend 3.73 or higher gearing...i think you would be fine with your 3.42's but yea the two cams above put down some nice numbers.....people are seeing almost 450 with a good h/c combo

the only reason i have not gone to a bigger cam...god knows i want to, is i would need a bigger stall and i got mine for too good a of a deal

huge cams aren't always the answer. you need to plan your combo correctly to complement all the components, and then be tuned correctly by a a more than competent tuner, and then you will see the results you want. just throwing a huge cam in a car and having some headers and a set of heads on there isn't going to net you the numbers you want.

Yea, if I went with a larger cam I would get a bigger stall just wondering what would happen with a smaller stall with a larger cam. I want a big cam and then I would get all of the complementing add-ons to go with it. I would also get an excellent tune if I go larger cam too.
