Default Chose my cam--best heads to match???

After some extensive research on cams both big and small, I've decided to go with either the MTI/Lunati B1 or T1 camshaft(any advice on this is also welcome).

I feel these are great cams due to their awesome torque production/flat curves, with awesome average numbers, and equally high peak numbers(Gomer hit 425 RWHP/400RWTQ I believe with B1--others were also similar). Not to mention they get decent MPG

B1: 221/221; .558/.558; 114LSA/110ICL
T1: 221/221; .558/.558; 112LSA/108ICL

I've also done quite a bit of research on cylinder heads--but not with as much success.

Supporting mods will be: lid w/K&N, ported TB, LS6 intake, longtubes, ORY pipe, catback, a good tune, etc. in an A4 with 3200-3600 stall, and 3.42 gear

The stipulations:

1.) I'm looking to keep the price around $1600 or less(no AFR's or ETP's here, unfortunately).
2.) Want to keep Intake PV's around 225-230 or less
3.) Want compression around 10.8:1, with .035"-.045" quench, and NO PtoV clearance problems on stock bottom end(which will be altered by milling and gaskets)

I imagine heads with better low/mid lift flow numbers would work best with these cam profiles and mods...???

Which heads will take best advantage of these camshaft's profiles as well as the other mods? I have a couple of my own ideas/theories, but want to see others' opinions as well.

Also, should I go with the cam ground on the 112 or 114 LSA, and why?

Thanks in advance for any help/advice given.

Dummy question here: where are you finding these cams? Ive searched the Lunati/edlebrock site and can only find the B1 specs.

There's no such thing as a dumb question...

I found these cams after doing a lot of searches in here(LS1-LS6 Internal Engine forum) on various camshafts. When I typed in certain terms(like MTI), it seemed like every other thread was about one of these cams, and all of them had positive things to say--and not one negative post about either.

MTI used to sell them, but they no longer carry them. Fortunately, you can still get them both through Lunati/Holley. Only the B1 is listed on their website, but they can grind a T1 for you for no additional charge.

Here's a few links:

Keep in mind most of these are Cam only numbers, some of them through unlocked converters, etc...So these cams are putting out pretty good

I can set you up with a set of heads that will work great with your set up. Give me a call, PM or e-mail.

Hey thanks.
Dindnt mean to steer the topic..just curious.
I have also been looking for a cam and had narrowed it to a TR220 or TSP220.
I have head lots of good things about the B1 cam, but thought it was a thing of the past.
Oh swell, Ive gone crosseyed again....
Ok, just 2 more choices to add to my list after whittling it down from 6 to 2.
Good luck with the hunt.

Hey,

I've got a few questions for you:

1.) How would you tailor the heads to best fit my setup(what exactly would your portwork/machine work involve to best fit my setup)? Done by hand or CNC? What type/size valves?

2.) What would the port volumes be?

3.) Can you give me an idea of the flow numbers expected, based on previous work?

4.) What would the cost be?

Thanks for the reply, and I look forward to hearing from you

With Texas Speed PRC 2.5 heads and a tr224/224 112 lsa cam I'm putting down about 440hp and 420tq. My compression is higher than you want but my numbers are what your looking for. The PRC heads are $1,500 I think but if you talk to them I'm sure they'll give you a deal. I can email you my dyno graph but it too big to post and I dont have editing software.

Thanks for the reply. I'm willing to consider more compression, as long as it can safely run on 93 octane after a tune.

The PRC 2.5's are one of the heads I am looking at that is higher on my list. I haven't yet listed all the heads I'm considering because I don't want people to limit their suggestions only to the ones I listed.

But, here they are, in no particular order:

1. PRC 2.5 5.3's
2. TEA 1.5 5.3's
3. MTI Stage 2E's
4. Port Pro's

If you have any suggestions on heads that fit all/most of the criteria, please share your thoughts...

What's your compression at? Which intake are you running? Thanks for all your help, and I look forward to seeing your graph. Thanks,

Bill

compression is about 11.75:1 is what TSP said I havent measured it. ls6 intake and TR ported tb (a fast 90/90 would produce even better results) sending email. Stainless Works LT's and catted Y (Random tech cats) factory SLP D/D, M6 numbers were thru factory 3:42's, 3:73's installed now in factory 10 bolt. Car is a daily driver, hasnt seen the track yet but will someday. Running on Nitto RII's

WOW!!! That is a lot of compression! That runs on 93 Octane? Also, I won't be running cats--that might produce a couple more HP and TQ?

That's a great setup you've got there. With a Fast 90/90 you would eclipse the 450 mark with ease!

yep pump gas 92-93 oct, not sure on the compression seems kind of high but they are 5.3 heads and I think TSP has seen a few so they might have the knowledge as to what the com[pression results should be close to. I'm actualy going to be in the shop tomorrow changing front brakes to Baer GT big kit, I'll see if I can talk him into checking the compression for me.
