Default Let's play "What's that noise?"!

So I fired up my LS1 this afternoon with an outside air temp of about 28-30 degrees. As soon as it turned over I heard what can best be described as a sandpaperish noise coming from the passanger side bank. It seems to be coming from the top end. It's like a swooshing/sanding noise. It could also sound like a bunch of ball bearings rolling around quickly in a pan or something.

Does anyone have any clue as to what this could be?

Anyone at all? I've NEVER heard this sound before and am baffled as to what it could be...

Did the sound go away as the motor warmed up?

I didn't let it warm up. I was worried about doing any damage so I shut it down after a minute or so. The sound did change with engine RPM, I found that to be odd too...

I'll let it warm up tomorrow when the OAT is higher than 10* and see what happens.
