Default How hard is it to install new rods/pistons on an ls1?

i was wanting to forge my internals when i do my head swap..car is 01 ws6..i want to put a BIG shot of juice on it in the near future.. problem is im a lil short on cash and i wanted to do the work myself..im not worried about swappin the heads out..i know i can do that..how hard would it be to swap out the internals..i mean you just drop the oil pan and the windage tray and the rest is self explanatory right? what else is involved? and has anyone here done it? thanks!

Sounds like trouble to me. Most have a shop do it, or buy a forged block. If you have never done a bottom end don't learn on your own car. I do not advise doing this mod in the driveway

if you have no experience or the proper tools and know how for clearances, however much money your going to attempt to save will be lost and more likely cost double by having it redone by a competant shop.

IMHO, Its not beyond anyone's ability. Removing the oil pan with the engine in the car is probably going to be the most difficult part. Try and get someone who's familliar with gapping rings, and at the very least buy Will Hanzels book which is a pretty competant guide.

I'd never attempt it in the car...
A) Drop the whole thing from the bottom or pull from the top.
B) Got real tools?

If you aren't willing(A)
....or don't have(B)
..... do your H/C swap... hit it w/a 100 and call it good.

*EDIT* "not beyond anyone's ability" is WAY relative. JMFUO-

I would never put new rings on a block that hasn't been honed (unless I'm a dealership trying to fix piston slap. LOL)

Duh! Yeah, i feel like an idiot now... Forgot about not getting a hone in there... Even if you could fit a ball hone in the bottom, youd have a bunch of crap floating around that would be impossible to clean up.
