AFR 205's or 225's I have narrowed it down to these 2. Which ones are better for a stock LS1 block with a 232/236 112 LSA Cam, Yank SS 3600, 12 Bolt Moser 3.73, and Full bolt-ons and suspension. I will also be running 100 octane fuel on it. |
Generally speaking, the larger volume intake port is a better match for a larger cubic inch engine, or a smaller engine that turns extreme RPM. The general reason for the increased volume is to slow air velocity down in the port so that it doesn't reach unacceptable levels before the engines power peak. Many porters go big on the port because it makes it easier to get big flow numbers, and that's what seems to sell best lately. Many times a big port will dyno higher, where sometimes the smaller port performs better on the track. Being combination specific it's impossible IMO to get a specific answer for your case. I'm just relaying information and not making a prediction myself. AFR would probably be the best place to get the advice from. Personally, if I was never planning to go bigger engine I'd stay small. If I was planning more cubes in the future I'd go ahead with the big ports. |
thanks for the advice, it is highly appreciated!! Anybody else have something to say on this please feel free. |
205's for sure. AFR built them with stock bore in mind and although they only have 205 ports, the velocity in those heads are hard to duplicate. |
damn so I got 2 different people telling me different things. I am planning on going bigger someday, so I might go with the 225's, seeing that I am getting them for 2100 shipped Brand new and ready to go. I am up for more opinions though, if you could get some 225's for the price of 205's for your stock ls1 block, would you do it? |
IF your going bigger cubes in the near future, then the 225's for sure. If your years away from doing it, then 205's IMO. I think both guys are saying the same thing. Go with 205's for a a small bore and 225's with a biger bore. The 225's on a small bore will probably not do as well in the lower RPM as the 205's but probably pull harder in the way upper RPM. Personally, I could care less about the money difference, I'd go with what works the best with my setup IMHO. Dan |

Yeah I saw he had a Yank 3600 and 3.73's so I figure the larger head wouldn't hurt him too bad overall. |
thank you guys for the advice and your opinions were greatly helpful. I am going to go ahead and go with the 225's seeing that I plan on going bigger within the year. Thanks, Sergio |
Is anyone thinking of that Bacardi Silver commercial right now? "You know Sergio?" "Yeah, he's the tall-short guy, sorta fat-skinny?" "You do know Sergio!" |
for your ci's the 205's. i've had three sets of heads and the 205's are bad azz. my car runs near 10's motor 11.1@124 ,stock weight(and i still don't have all the boltons yet). if the car was set up for n/a it would go 10.7-10.8's motor as is. get them and you'll be happy. goodluck to ya. |
pretty funny Sharpe! Thanks for the advice and I think I may have to look for some AFR 205's then. BTW, anybody know if the absolute stage 2.5 heads are any good? |
The 205s will be enough for you.
