Default Anyone tried T-rex cam with Ported Heads?

Has anyone tried the T-rex cam with a Ported Heads?
If so, what Heads, valve size, compression, ect.
What were the dyno numbers and or track times?

Do you think that is to much cam for good Ported Heads?
Thanks

I ran it last year with a set of GTP S2 5.3L heads milled .040"

Made decent horsepower (460ish to the wheels on slicks). and ran pretty darn good for its weight (3350-3375 lbs)...

went 10.48 @ 129.8 in -100 ft air (on a 1.43 60')

also ran consistant 10.70-10.80s in summer heat (+3000 ft air)

what do you mean by too much cam? if oyu mean p-v clearance then yes it prob is. ported heads would only help it flow better.

Fireball
That’s a good ET (10.49 and 10.70 to 10.80 in +3000da)
What intake, gear and tire were you running?
What are you planning for 06?

WS6FirebirdTA00
When I said might be to much cam for ported heads, I meant that the T-rex was design for stock heads and with good flowing heads you might want a different cam.
Fly cutting would be a must.

LSX 90/90 intake, 4.71 gears, and a 28x10.5W tire was the combo I used last year.

Next year is a change in heads, change in intake, and most likely a change in cam (optimized for my heads and induction)

I have some MTI stg2R heads and not mill and they toll me that I can not run anything bigger than X1 cam cause off clearance I got some 2.05int and 1.60 exh
so it depends on ur valves how big are they

I never understood that. Isn't the 2.05 a measurement of the diameter of the valve? If a bigger diameter valve inherently has a longer stem, then that makes sense to me, but why does the diameter of the valve play into PTV clearance?

cause the valve is at an angle, it makes it closer to the piston

Impressive set-up!

That is similar to what I am looking to do.
I have a T-rex and looking for heads to go with it (kind of backwards I know).
I will fly cut the pistons and use a .040 head gasket to tighten up the quench.
Also, I already have fast 90/90 set-up
Car is running 11.3 to 11.4 cam only now, but looking to step it up a little while staying N/A 346

I agree, that is a good idea!
I started out wanting something a little more for the track to get into the 10’s cam only. Know while I have it apart I am rethinking my goals and maybe add the heads now.
As for the FM13 it is an awesome cam, both for the street and strip.
Just want a little more.

How do you like your T-rex cam?
Do you have any track comparisons?

Fireball is running some awesome times with a T-rex and heads.

I love my t-rex. Haven't been to the track with it yet though. Didn't have drag radials for about 2 months, then when I got them, it started raining and turn freakin winter here, and now I have to put poly mounts in it because the trans mount took a dump and so did one of the motor mounts. Should have done that when I did my cam, headers and clutch. Just didn't think about it. But its alot of fun on the street. Pulls real hard.
