| TS6 | Jan 20, 2006 07:27 PM | I'm scared to buy a new motor.... I have been wanting to buy a 427 or 402 for my car but my stock motor runs so good I am scared to give up that reliability. Every car I've owned took a downward spiral as soon as the motor came out. It just seemed like a never ending shit storm of problems that ultimately caused the car to basically suck to own. I want my reliabilty and streetability but I also want to go faster.
How reliable have aftermarket motors been thus far? I don't even daily drive the car, in fact I put maybe 3000 miles a year on it. I am pretty easy on stuff till track race time comes. I'd honestly be happy getting 25,000 miles out fo whatever I buy. I just don't want to be dealing with issues constantly. So far it seems people have had good luck with their built motors, which makes me feel good. Is it reasonable to expect a 600 horse 427 to live a long life with proper care and maintenance? I don't mind doing maintenance and stuff, but I'm not replacing rings and bearings every 3000 miles either. I really want to get down to the 9's at 3600 lbs. I don't ask much huh? :drive: |
