Rod bolts...what's required? Thinking about having a set of better rod bolts put in when I do my cam swap (G5x4 or Equalizer v.3) do to some insecurities about revving too high with the stock ones in. What all is required to do this? I'd imagine there would be a decent bit of work required (won't be doing it myself, so I'm trying to calculate rough shop fees), but I'd rather pay for it now than have to replace the engine because a stock rod bolt didn't want to hold on at 6800rpm. |
Sometimes you're required to remove the ferrules (sleeves) in the bolt holes. I'm not sure if all aftermarket bolts require you to do this, but I know at least Katech does. When you remove the stock bolts, leave a few threads in and pull down, it will pull out the sleeve (again, if you need to do this). The bolt manufacturer should tell you whether you need to or not. Other than that, not really a lot to it. |
Other than dropping the oil pan! Which is not required with a head/cam swap. From what I hear this can be a major PITA with the engine still in the car! |
