224 vs 228
ok so after a little research i had decided that a 224/224 cam (the tsp package w/ 918 springs to be exact) sounded like a good idea. i was just going to get the xe so i wouldnt beat the springs to death with the bigger lobes. but the more i look at it the 228 starts to call me. im not trying to build a drag car, just something to have fun in a drive on a daily basis.
my question is, would it be worth it as far as power gains to get the bigger cam or am i going to just end up tearing up springs quicker for a few extra ponies?
btw id prefer not to go w/ double springs.

Why dont you want a dual spring. Patriot golds can be had quite inexpensively, and theyll last quite a while on a mild lobe, plus youll have the protection of duals. Unless you specifically dont want the weight in the valvetrain. Also, go bigger on the cam! Just my opinion.

With stock heads?
PS's dyno is also noted for being a little on the stingy side.

A 228 on the same lobes as the 224 with similar valve events should mirror each other with the 228 pulling 5-8rwhp up top over the 224 and the torque curve holding on a little longer.

I've got the 918's and they are great. You wont have to change as often as the dual too. Plus, the inner springs on the duals break easily if you happen to blip the throttle before the metal is warmed fully. The 918's are good for well over .600 lift. Then after the Comp 921 springs came out they had to "officially" rate the 918's at .600 so they wouldn't lose business on the 921 buyers...
I had the 224 cam and I wanted more after a couple months. I then went to the 236 I have now and it's still not good. I'd go ahead and just get something in the 230 range, they drive the same.
I can't tell the difference (drivability)between the 224 and 236. They 236 makes insane topend though, and there really isn't much low end loss. I break traction anytime in 1st or 2nd gear and if I floor it above 4,000prm in 3rd it lights up. A cam in the mid 230 range with bolt ons will garauntee 400+ rwhp -Joshua
