Default Hotcam vs Asa Cam

I was wondering if anyone knows about what the power difference would be between the 2 cams?I have the Hc now and I'm thinking about going to the Asa cam.

I know about most of the other cams, hell I tell most people not to get the hc and I've had it for years.I just want to keep with a Gm cam because I just got pushrods/with the Crane 1.8 kit and now I kinda wished I would of went ahead and swapped cams and stayed with the 1.7's when I did the heads and rockers. If I would of got the 1.7's i'd just get another cam/pushrods.

Basically I dont want to get another cam because then I have to get new pushrods because of the smaller base circle of after market cams. Also already having the 1.8's I would have to get a custom cam or swap back to 1.7's.

So if the Asa will pick up a noticable amount of power over the Hotcam with the 1.8's I might go with it.The Grand Am cam is dif. out and not what I want. The 110 lsa doesnt bother me neither.I have a tune/tuner and a 3500 stall.

FWIW

It works really well with higher flowing exhaust and extra compression.

Thats the graph I remebered seeing.Do you think the Asa is worth 15 to 30 more at the wheels over the Hotcam.Like I said,I have every bolton including full exhaust/ls6 intake.I have 1.8 rockers and I just have the Patriot ported perimeter bolt heads with 2.05/1.60 valves.

I put down around 380/380 with my current setup and was just trying to hit 400.If the Asa will get me there then I'm going to swap'em out.

I say go for it......you'll love the sound of that cam . The guy that put down 370/370 still had stock heads, ls1 intake and stock pulley. I'll bet you'd be hovering around 400rwhp with your mods. I can't wait to get an ls6 intake and dyno mine.

Guys, where should a cam this size be idling at? How about in an auto with a 3800 stall? Im thinking mine is still way to high . ... around 1100.

With that converter you should easily be able to tune the car to idle @ 800-850 rpm.

With the Hotcam, my car idles around 750. I'm on the stock converter.

My idle is at 800.I think 1100 is way to high. Are you for sure its set to 1100 or is that what your tach says.My tach bounces between 1000 and 1200.If you hook up a scanner I'm right at 800.Our stock tachs arent the greatest in the world.

Yeah I'm gonna scan it tonight. My tach sits at what looks like 1100, but see the issue is I *think* my tuner just jacked the idle up. It dosen't chop like its sitting at 800-850. Well not from the other clips I've heard anyway. Are you guys making good power with yours? Hows torque looking? I came out pretty good.

Yeh,I have been thinking about it alot and just ordered the Comp xr281hr.Its a shelf grind on a 112--228-230---571-573.With the 1.8's itll be a 228-230---604-606.So I shouldnt have any valve clearance issues with my set up and I wont regret it if I went with something smaller.

Its not necessarily that I want to run them. Its that I already have them and they're not cheap.I dont want to sell them for a loss and go back to 1.7's. So I was trying to find a cam that would work with the 1.8's.

When I got the 1.8's I didnt plan on changing out the Hotcam. But you probably know how it goes.I want more now! If I wouldnt have gotten the 1.8's,finding the right cam wouldnt have been so hard for me.The more I thought about it the more I didnt want the Asa cam.Which I think both the Asa and Hotcam are good Gm cams.Just not what I'm wanting anymore.I'm not a dyno queen by far,but those 2 cams will never get me where I want!
