Question Would you shim your Patriot Dual Springs if.....

You were running a blower cam with only .57X and .58X lift? Max lift is .650 so I deffinately have room to work with.

All I used was the seats and Ti retainers that the kit came with... nothing extra and now Im starting to wonder if I should shim them a little bit to acheive a little more pressure. Only planning on spinning to about 6400rpm... stock hyd lifters.

Thanks..

I certainly wouldnt....its not like you are spinning to 8k. As long as the install height is correct you are good to go....

Absolutely not, no up side to "over" springing your setup... simply to much seat pressure for your needs...

Well, if all you used was the seats, you probably didn't bother with measuring the installed height. You should install the springs at the recommended height. I'm not running any big cam or turning any large RPMs but I thought it was a good idea to follow the spring manufacturer's installation specs and measure the spring height. On my stock LS6 heads, I had to shim every spring almost .050 to get it right. If you don't get it right you don't have the correct seat pressure or pressure through the valve events and you risk valve float and destroying the cam lobes and lifters.

That might be too **** for most people, but getting the spring height right just isn't that complicated. Get a tool for measuring the spring height and a pack of shims. I think the tool and shims cost me <$100. Good insurance IMO.

When I bought my spring kit from Futral Allan gave me some .050 shims to use with my F-13 and Manely duals.

I agree with kenp. I have AFR heads and installed the Ferrea ultralight valves on the intakes and looked into shimming my springs because I wanted to run Jesel SS rockers and didn't want float. When I checked the installed height it was at 1.840" and there were already shims under the spring cup. I went ahead and shimmed another .060" to get a few more lbs. of seat pressure.
Don't assume anything. It will get you into trouble. An example is, after I went through all this and installed the Jesels, the car didn't idle right. It turned out the rockers were hitting the retainers, just enough to screw up the idle. I got lucky and found the problem before I did any damage to the valves. Your results may vary.
Also, you may want to check the seat and open pressures. I bought a gauge for this because I'm going to have to check them occasionally anyway. For My setup I had 145lbs before break-in, 137 after, and 145 after shimming.

The attention to detail is what makes one car outperform another.
Adding shims is the only way to correctly get to the recommend install height. Adding additional shim to be within .050 of coil bid is to reduce valve spring harmonic, with will better control the valve events with out valve bounce. This equals more HP and better valve train life.
I think that a good place for the Patriots Golds would be around 1.740 to 1.760. You will have to do some measuring and not take a guess.
