Default What variables affect cold Valve springs?

I ask this question for this reason: I usually start my cold engine (outside temp. > 60F), shift to Drive, and drive at 1500 RPM or lower until the engine reaches optimum temperature.

Does anything other than RPM influence cold valve springs? I wouldn’t think that engine load would adversely affect valve springs as lift is always the same! Just double checking!

The springs are just more brittle at lower temps and aren't affected by load, just mostly RPM (along with the obvious of the cam's ramp rate, lifters, etc).

I always let my car warm up for around 30-45 seconds regardless of outside temps. and then yes, keep the rpm's down. Makes my stomach turn when I see a nice f-body leaving a parking lot 2 seconds after they start their car in december and then bouncing off the rev limiter 8 seconds later.

haha yes, i feel your pain. hell any vehicle for that matter. my buddy has an 00 dodge ram (360) that he will fire up stone cold and literally 10 seconds later...bounce it off the rev limiter (which he raised to 6k).

i guess i'm a stickler for **** like that..because, i too, always let stuff warm up before i rip on it. then again, i drive everything like i stole it, so anything i can do to prolong its life is needed.

I drive everything like I stole it as well....once it is warmed up! I would be a terrible car thief!
