Default From A to Z, what is the normally FULL cost of having your ls1 turned into a 408?

When i get my ls1, i have actual intentions of (probally a while from now lol, need the car first) to have my engine bored out to a built 408 and spray it. ive already priced out heads and everything just for the fun of it, but whats the usal cost to have someone bore it out for you and build it with parts included in price? what were some of your prices when u had it done?

It might end up being cheaper to buy a iron shortblock... and you can spray more!

Then you can have the ls1 bored to 408 and build it up so you have an extra when you blow up the first one

You cant bore an ls1 block out far enough. the 98 and 99 will only go to 3.903, and later ls1s will only go to 3.908. Any more and you'd need to resleeve the block which would cost way more than a new block.

Look into an ls2 shortblock. Either SDPC or TSP will build you one with all teh conversion pieces you need for just over 4K. Dont forget youre gonna need some serious heads and a big cam. Then youre gonna need a clutch if youre M6, or a big stall if your A4. Then youre gonna need a 12 bolt or 9" rear. Then youll want prostars and ET drags. Then youll need suspension, torque arm, and a driveshaft. Thatll probably be pretty close to the order in which things break on you.

start at about $7,000 for the longblock and work your way up. If you go full deal with AFR/ET heads, LSX intake, etc... you're creeping on $10,000. The sky is the limit and you can easily spend $20k on upgrades.

You do not need serious heads. Look here at link below.
https://ls1tech.com/forums/dynamometer-results-comparisons/462218-stock-headed-408-468-460-w-ls6-pacesetters.html

Cammed iron shortblock $4000.00
Clutch ?
Larger Injectors ?
Gaskets maybe ?
Use stock LS1 heads with new springs, and correct length pushrods?
Use LS6 intake and ported OEM throttle body $0.00
Installation and tune?

Could someone give a rough doller figure for all of the above?

FYI. Those numbers are in STD correction. SAE is probably somewhere in the area of 430/430. Why would you spend $3000 more to get the same power you can get with a cam-only setup.

FWIW. Starting with a stock 01+ car. (for the ls6 intake), even to do the setup you show there.

Lid - 100
408 shortblock - 4000
cam - 400
pushrods - 100
valve springs - 250
head gaskets/bolts/misc other gaskets - 150ish for stock stuff
headers - 500 for cheap unpainted headers/y-pipe
tuning - 500

So right there you're looking at $6000 to get you a setup that puts down MAYBE 440hp/440tq SAE. (Which for $4000 less you can make 400+ with a cammed stock shortblock & stock heads)

To take advantage of the setup and actually make the ~500 rwhp that it should, add:

ported heads - 1300 (this would be for relatively basic heads, CNC'd LS6 heads)
injectors - 250
fuel pump - 150

OK. So at your "cheapest, every-corner-cut" setup to make at or near 500rwhp, you're at $8000.

Add in a spec 3 clutch or converter - 1000
12 bolt or 9 inch? another 2500
basic rear suspension? another 500

This is all providing that you are doing the intsallation yourself. If you are going to have a shop do the motor swap, expect to spend at least another $1500 on that.

I've just listed nearly $15,000 for the "basics" of a 408 install. You can pretty easily spend another $5,000 or so if you start upgrading to AFR heads, LSX intake, ARP headbolts, jesel rockers, premium headers, good free-flowing catback, etc, etc.
