Let's clear somethings up please

Ok, I've done some searches and reads and want to know about what is actuall in a 2001 LS1. First off, I know all 2001 LS1's came with a LS6 intake. Second I know some 2001's came with LS6 blocks. Now lets get into the heads and cam. If you have an LS6 block, do you have an LS6 cam or heads? What about the oil pump? I know alot of these parts are interchangeable, but I just would rather know what I have and how to tell. (I know how to find out if block is LS1 or LS6)

Yes, you have the LS6 intake without egr.
You have stock LS1 heads, most likely 241 castings.
You will have the stock '01-02 LS1 camshaft, which is the same as the truck cams, 5.3s.
You can check your block number to see if you do have the LS6 block.
You have the standard LS1 oil pump.

Good luck!

...definitely 241's. They started the later half of '00, and I have them on my car. But if you get 'em ported, it doesn't matter if they're 241's or 853's. These heads can make a ton of power if ported for your application, but folks usually dump 'em for LS6, AFR, or ET's, etc.

Don't mean to hijack but how do you know if its a 241's or the 853's? whers the block number located?

head casting numbers are on little nubs on the outside of the heads, as for the block, you need to put a mirror on the driver side near brake booster, face down, get under neath and you can get the numbers that way.

or you can just tell by the finish on the top of them. 853's will have a rougher sandier finish to them (the area around the valve covers) because of the way they were cast. the 241's have a finer grit

the the ls1 and ls6 block are the same except for a breather hole in the crank area. it was supposed to equalize pressure in the block but it really makes no difference whatsoever

The easiest one to see is on the front of the passenger side Head...

Actually, it is the 6.0L LQ4 camshaft that is in the 2001-2002 5.7L LS1s, not the LM7 5.3L camshaft.
