Default Newbie Questions. . .Rapid Motorsports/Comp Cams Springs

Alright, I'm tired of reading other peoples threads for answers, I might as well just ask! ! !

Scenario:
I've just bought a Rapid Motorsports C3 cam with about 4K miles on it: https://ls1tech.com/forums/lsx-parts-sale/489287-fs-rapid-c3-cam.html

Cam is: http://www.rapidmotorsports.com/mode...=1&intYearId=3

The cam specification is 242/250/109 0.578/0.578

Realizing the lift on these lobes is a heck of alot more than stock can handle, I've also bought a set of 987 Comp Cam springs: http://www.sdpc2000.com/catalog/1946...ith-Damper.htm

SDPC Part Number: CC987-16
Manufacturer: Competition Cams
Outside Diameter (O.D.) : 1.437"/0.700"
Installed Height : 138 @ 1.750"
Open Pressure : 325 @ 1.250"
Coil Bind : 1.150"
Material : CC730,CC740
Rate (lbs/in) : 344

Now for the questions. . .

1. Do I need to do anything special before swaping the springs out? Do the heads need worked to allow proper seating of the springs?

2. With near 100K miles on the LS1 engine (bone stock as far as I know) in my car, besides an oil pump and chain swap, anything else I should consider?

3. Have I matched a good set of springs w/this cam?

4. I'm aware a normal warmup is required before getting 'on' it with the engine in mornings. . . Whats the average life-expectance of these springs?

5. I've read a few thousand times about lightening up the valve train, how worth is it swapping out the retainers for the titanium ones?

6. With the swap of springs to 1.8" height ones, should I consider pushrods a serious issue now also?

7. Not desireing to go crazy w/the lift on the valves and seeing as how stock LS1 rockers are 1.7:1 ratio, is the swap to 1.8:1 and the interference created by this lift worth it to add in the valve cover 1" spacer? What I am saying, is the power gain worth the hassle?

8. Any guesstimates for rwhp based on these products and my signature mods list?

9. . . .what have I missed for questions?

Thank you!

Duff

Those springs require the head to be machined. I'd return them and just buy the Patriot Golds or the PRC Dual spring kit. Both are the same and are better springs than the 987s and more importantly, are drop in replacements. If you factor in the cost difference between the 987s and the Patriot or PRC springs, it's still not a big enough difference to cover the cost of the machine work done and the hassle of removing the heads.

Plus, I think the 987s don't come with the retainers and other things that you need for them to work properly anyway, whereas the other kits do. So that's another thing to factor into the price difference, which actually isn't very different at all.

Get some hardened pushrods. At least 7.400" but probably 7.425" will give you proper preload and keep the valvetrain quiet. I'm unsure as to the lobes that Mikey uses on the C3, so I don't know exactly how much smaller than stock it is.

Should make good power, but will require a good tune. The Crane 1.8 rockers don't require anything special to install them and come with the proper pushrods, but I wouldn't worry with them ($700 for the set) is not worth the 10HP they will give you.

why not get Mikey's opinion? You might as well have him tune it also, he is one of the best

If you are going to use the Crane 1.8 rockers, use the matching Crane springs otherwise you will see valvetrane harmonics. If you plan to use stock rockers, use a PRC spring set.

Not looking to use the 1.8s all that badly. So, obviously alot of people believe in the PRCs more than the 987-16s. . .How much to get the machining done properly for the 241s to accept the 987s? More than the cost of the PRCs to begin with?

OH, I know the lift on the C3 is listed at 242/250 . . .thats from the beginning of the valve opening right? Whats the .050 lift durations? Thank you!
