Looking to build a 408, What Kind of $$ am I looking at?
I want to build a stroker for obvious reasons. My bank account has a bottom, so I need to do it economically. I was wondering the best combo to do here. I have seen short blocks for $3500 or so, and things along that line. So Any of you guys that have built one please let me know what you got and how much you have invested. also some power #'s Thanks.

I am looking at what I need to have a turn key motor. I am assuming the best way to start is with a short block and build from there, but I'm not sure.

Turn-key will cost a bit more than even a longblock, because you'll need a fuel system, ignition system, exhaust system, and intake system...
I'd say if you budget a good $12-13k you can have a very good setup. And that's with a $3600-$4000 longblock. There are so many other things that drive up the price.
-Set of good stage 3 heads ($1700-2500 in price), gaskets, oil pump, pushrods, timing chain, camshaft, ARP hardware, underdrive pulley, spark plugs, plug wires, 42lbs injectors, Walbro 255 in-tank pump, Mezeire water pump or aluminum radiator, lid and filter, FAST 90 and TB, headers, true duals or Y-pipe and catback, clutch and flywheel or automatic transmission and torque converter and cooler.
That price does not include a good 12-bolt or 9" rearend, so factor in another 2k or so depending on the options you want. Then you'll need a wheel/tire package that can put the power down and a capable suspension ($1500 to $5000 easily), brakes (if you road race), safety equipment (cage if you want to race), and nitrous if you want that on top. Just building up the car to accept 500+rwhp could cost you another $10k without too much effort.
