lifters aren't they fun

just got the word from the chevy house that one of my lifters is fried after a diagnosis.

do any of you guys have a link to a "how to" so i can do this job? they are talkin about 3500 bux and wow thats too much ill just do it my self with the aid of some good friends and some good beers.

anyways any information would be greately appreciated. 2001 z28 with a bad lifter slight tappin noise, doesnt seem severe but i spotted some replacement oem style lifters for about 2-400 bux, so we will see what happens in the up coming days.

one of the things i plan to do on this job tho is take lots of pics and try to just chronicle everything down, thats if the step by step "how to " isnt available.

alright well hollar at me thanks

Goto www.ls1howto.com and check out the heads/cam swap tutorial, just disregard the parts that don't apply to you.

Get some Comp 850's they are stock replacements for $200 and do it yourself. You will need new head gaskets, bolts, and fluids. Its a pain to do but it is do-able with the right tools. If you were thinking about any mods...now is the time to do them :)

Summit has some 1987+ hydraulic roller cam lifters for 120. Its my understanding that all OEM style lifters are manufactured by one of the two OEM suppliers, Delphi or Eaton. Might as well save some bucks if theyre all made by the same place anyway. I went with melling lifters (eaton) before I saw the summit ones for even cheaper.

And as NassyVette says, check out the headswap at ls1howto.com for instructions on how to get to the lifters and how to get back. Youre going to need head gaskets, head bolts, and possibly water pump gaskets too.
