Cam regrets..... Post here!
I want to hear war stories about your bad cam selections . I have been doing research on cams and I'm reluctant to spend my money because of all of the different opinions, and independant tests. I figured instead of asking what "should" I do... I could ask what did you do wrong (and why you feel that way). This way I can weigh positives to negatives and make a better decision.

I did alot of searching and reading on people with different cams and stock heads. I was orginally going to go with a 224/224, but found out alot of people end up buying another bigger cam later.
I went with TR 230/224 cam, after hearing great things about it. www.ls1howto.com has a chart under his cam swap page showing the mild to extreme cams. It helped also.
Search is your friend.

I also was going to go with the standard TR224 but after reading how people always wanted to go bigger, I decided on TSP's 228R. I'm very happy with it! And 112 on an A4 sounds amazing.

I currently have the G5x3, I wish I would've went with the G5x4. So many people say that it idles no differently from the X3 and makes more power. 90/90 combo would've been a better choice as well. Oh well you live and learn. I can't complain about 473 rwhp 431 rwtq, but I can complain about getting beat by a "stock" C6 Z driven by Fadi. I can't even get a rematch.

i have TR227, tad bigger than 224, tad smaller than the 230...i love this cam, make great power, great driveability, BUT, if i were doing it again i would have went a LOT bigger. Also i drive this car 600 miles a week with no problems at all for the last 10000 miles.

I originally was going to go with a 224/228, then I was considering the fact that I was considering a blower next year(224/230 comp cam xe-r) Then I thought, I spent all this money on AFR's 90/90 combo, QTP longtubes, and all the rest of my bolt-ons. What I have decided on (with help from PredatorZ) is a 228/232 .588/.595 110+1 LSA (XE-R/HR type). I figure if I do get a blower I can change my cam again then. But I figured 228/232 would be my personal limit for a DD. We'll see..

If you are going to use it on the street, you want a smallish cam so it behaves in traffic.... nothing worse than getting stuck in a traffic jam with a car that will not idle.
220/220, 560/560, 112 is about right for me....
