Running Newer Crank Reluctor Ring in Older Motor?
Despite what many will say, not all LS1 and LS6 engines got the same reluctor rings. The part number for the 24X LS reluctor ring from GM is 12559353, however, this ring is NOT what is on my stock 99 LS1 crankshaft. The teeth on my 99 reluctor ring are much closer together, there is no gap between the teeth on the two wheels. Also, the two wheels are much closer together than on the new reluctor rings. The old and the new rings may have the same teeth orientation, but they are visually different. I'm talking about 24X rings here, not 58X.
Now, does this difference affect the timing? Will the old crank position sensor react well to the new reluctor ring? I'm thinking of putting my stock reluctor wheel onto my Eagle crank. I'm taking the crank back to the shop because the reluctor wheel was not put on in the correct orientation, causing my car to run extremely poorly on only four cylinders.
