Default German Casterol 0-30

I currently found the german casterol at my local Auto Zone..I did my oil change and have gotten better oil pressure and also less oil consumption.car will idle @ 65psi..before oil change(10-30 casterol syntec)oil idled @45psi...have had the new oilnly about a week and when I checked the dipstick, it still read above full...before I had to ad about 1/2 a quart a week..It seems this is a really good oil, may main concern is the protection(0w vs 10 or higher)that the motor will receive..I'm looking also @ the mobil 1 0w-40 to try it out....any feed back on the protection and wear on this oil is greatl appreciated...

i got similar results that you described when i switched from mobil 10w 40 to Amsoil 10w 40. Now i don't put anything in my car but amsoil. Also with Amsoil i get NO oil comsuption (or at least none that i can tell) between oil changes

That really doesn't answer my question about the protection of the 0 weight vs 10 or 20 weight...good info though if I consider to switch to amsoil..

the first number is only a measure of how difficult it is to crank over in the winter. Once the car is warmed up, the first number goes out the window. 0w30 protects better than most other Xw30 oils as evidenced by the oil analysis results.

Yes, you need to look at the viscosity numbers at 100* C, where the GC is at about 11.7 Cst and Mobil-1 10W-30 is at 10. Much better viscosity. Lower number is only for pumpability at cold temps, can't remember the specification where this test is conducted though. So in effect, you are better protected because it will pump better cold in the winter.

At 0* C.

GC at 0* C will perform like a 0 weight oil would at 0* C.

Nope, its my own scratch built axe:

Its basically a hollowbody thinline telecaster, with dimarzio humbuckers and a fishman acoustic bridge pickup. Best of both worlds.
