Broke one of my AIR bolts in the flange on the header :(
I was doing the AIR block off plates today and as i was tightning down one of the AIR bolts (passenger side top bolt) down on the block off plate and i noticed it was getting too tight,so i started to back it back out and put a washer behind it and wound up snaping the top off the bolt with 3/4 of the bolt left in the flange.
I cant seem to get a angle to put anything in to back the bolt out. I have drilled a small hole in the bolt but like i said i cant get the tap in to pull it out. Is there anyway to get it out without removing the header? I have the bottom bolt in and RTV sealent on it without any exhaust leaks. It's just a sore eye!

THis may or may not work. But I just saw this commercial where Sears has a back out bit. It backs out worn out screws. It *might* work on a bolt that small.
Good luck! Did you use a torque wrench? If not, then just snug it up. But I guess you know this now.

Its painfully common that those bolts just get stuck halfway through tightening...I dunno what the deal is. I've broken 2 in my macs. Fortunatly I was able to get to them to remove them.
Sucks dont it.

I did the same thing on the drivers side. Luckily I was able to get a drill in to get it out. When putting the plates on I just used stainless 1/4-20 nuts and bolts. They work fine.
Sorry I couldn't be more help.
Good luck.

I had the same thing happen to me as well and could never get it out. So I put some RTV on it and a band clamp around the lip and it so far has managed to not leak any and has been that way for quite a while. I dont have the pipes on there anymore either, just the block off plates so I dont know if that makes it easier to seal.

StreetStalker, I just did the exact same thing. I had to pull the header off and get it drilled out.

I broke one and had to get creative with a dremel. I used a cutting disc to cut a slot through the top of what was left, so I could just get a flathead and unscrew it. I couldn't believe it actually worked.

Well since you are running a block off plate why not just get the tube welded? Just leave a little airtube so you dont weld into the header. This way you also shouldnt have to pull the header.

Thanks for the info guys. Everything is ok with the car just that i would like to see a bolt there instead of one bolt and RTV sealent on it lol.
