AFR doesn't use epoxy. Where did you purchase them?

I bought them from a member in here.

I took the heads to a machine shop to swap springs.and we found
5 different problems.

he says the guy that ported this heads use epoxy to get the shape he deisres. But in one runner they use epoxy all the way trough the push rod hole.

the guy that ported the heads, aperently its a sponsor, but I'm not saying any names.

Why not spill the beans? I believe Tony would like to know who is ruining the heads.

Did you buy them knowing they were ported?

I have a set here (AFR's) that have been ported to the max, they were even welded in the back of the sping pockets. I'm thinking they are the couse of a smoking problem. Going to have them pressure tested today. I might would send them back for a set thats not ported so much.

Shaarky 12-05-2006 10:04 AM

yeap this are ported too.

atleast yours were welded

if you guys want to know I can send you a private message.
or if one of the moderators ask me to.

the heads flow 335cfm at .600 lift on a 4.000 bore
..but the real story is in the dyno testing these heads picked up almost 40 rwhp after porting

thats what the seller told me

Seems to me I have seen plenty of not so good AFR ported head results and few (if any) stellar ones showing they clearly performed better than an out of the box unit may have given the same combo and circumstances. A couple of years ago when there werent as many aftermarket choices there were many shops hyping there big port reworked AFRs never to show any promising results when all the smoke cleared. The guys that have been on this board for awhile should certainly be able to back me on that. The noobs and the guys that have been here a year or so wouldn't really know.

Have any of you guys considered they might be optimal just the way they are??

For most street/strip applcations with LSx style intake manifolds I assure you that is the case....but dont take my word for it....do some digging with the search engine. There is a reason we haven't produced a "big" cathedral port intake runner.

The AFR heads are extremely optimized right out of the box....put that extra "porting money" into a set of trick headers with a merge collector or a better intake manifold....it will be a much better allocation of your funds.

Something to chew on at the very least....

I deff. wouldn't recomend a set that's ported to the point these are.

Does anyone have a pic of the spring pockets on the Afr 225's?

Shaarky 12-05-2006 09:56 PM

yea I made my decision I'm going to ask for my money back
