no. there will be some oil sitting on the bottom, but it wont poor out all over the place.

P.S. why are you taking them off? are they leaking oil? if not then i dont see a point.

They are reusable you dont need to change unless they are leaking.

keep that fifth bolt out when you put them back on. The front 4 bolts are enough. It makes it much easier for next time.

I agree with GuitsBoy toss that bolt as far as you can, i did when i did my cam swap. But when i had put on my headers last year i put it back on, what a bad idea. Thats the one bolt that causes your arms to get all cut up from trying to loosen it. Oh yeah and don't worry about any oil going all ove the place, theres some but not enough to make a mess.

Okay that's good to know. BTW, the gaskets are leaking and that's the reason for their replacement. I am with you guys on this one...I'm NOT putting that last bolt back in on the coil bracket. It's a real PITA.

The only time there is any amount of oil in the valve cover region is when the engine is running...the oil pump pressurizes the oil and is used to spray the oil from the pan up in to this region, but it drains down really fast (and has to, as the oil goes from there to oil the rest of the engine since the LS1 oils from the top down). It follows the same path as when you add oil in the oil fill neck...it just pours straight on to the valves, and drains right down from there to the bottom through the passages that are there. If it didn't drain fast, you wouldn't be able to pour oil in your engine during an oil change very fast (and that would suck ).
